Then to add insult to injury.

I put a bucket on her head so she can't see where she's going.

A better way to move things is to get Dead Thrall, dump everything into a dead body because they have no storage limit, then raise them. The best thing about it is unlike most necromancy Dead Thrall don't make the body turn into ashes.

I actually NEVER give my house carl stuff because I'm overencumbered. First of all, my housecarl (Jordis the swordmaiden) is just as decked out as me (but she's the heavy weapons girl, where I'm the lightly armoured sneaker) or even more... When I got the Ebony mail, I upgraded it to legendary and gave it to her. I'm also working on a daedric armour set, while I'm still in glass armour.

One of the reasons I don't use her as a follower is the way she sighs as she say I'm sworn to carry your burdens.

  • deadfenix - 2 points - 4 years ago

Oh Lydia, I never even got the chance to know her (or make her a pack mule).

I was on a quest for the Companions that involved me killing a master vampire in a really cramped den. I kept getting killed when I remembered Lydia had recently been assigned as my housecarl. Excited at the thought I might have a chance at success with some help, I bring Lydia with me on my next attempt.

I go into sneak mode and take out the vampire's thrall with arrows. The master vampire quickly rushes at us while I pelt him with arrows. I let Lydia distract it with melee combat while I move to get a clear shot. Well, she ends up moving in front of me right as I release an arrow. This also happens to be right when the vampire brings her to near death.

I vaguely remember a chaotic mess of lots of blocking, striking with my sword and drinking nearly every health potion in my inventory to finish the master vampire off. I'd already decided that my character was going to be pretty selfish and eventually would join the Dark Brotherhood. After this mess, I extended on that and decided my character would feel no remorse for anyone's death (I really didn't want to do that fight over yet again).

Deep down, however, I still feel bad for letting her stay dead...

Yes, I know there is no chainmail armor in Skyrim. Let's call it a mod, okay? I wish I could have gotten a better picture, but it rained all day on Halloween. Anyway, I think I did okay for spending very little money and mostly using stuff I had laying around the house. And yeah, I did the iconic iron helmet even though it's a crap helmet. He would have preferred daedric armor, but I told him my smithing level wasn't high enough yet.

On my first playthrough of Skyrim I had a dragon skeleton that just... followed me around. Whenever I would Fast Travel the skeleton would drop from 5-20 feet in the air and land within a few feet of me. I started putting excess loot into it, but quickly stopped due to worry that it would randomly stop following me.

The first or second update fixed the "problem", but I always had to wonder what it must have looked like to the NPCs near where I fast traveled to.

I love the way mods seems to be kind of like a rollercoaster ( for me anyway) , it starts nice and slow , some extra birds here, better water there, some big trees would be nice. Then it starts to escalate , " Holy shit that looks cool, ENB? what's that? " Then you get to the point where Skyrim looks like an amazing movie , and then the sillyness takes hold , next thing you know you're summoning dancing russian bears playing a lute with mudcrabs wearing top hats while turning all the dragons into flying hams and replacing the NPC texture models with Zelda/superman/mylittlepony/whatever models, while your character runs around with a 12 ft long flaming roll of bubblegum toilet paper while looking like a walking pizza with legs.

Then 3 weeks later I uninstall all my mods and repeat the cycle.

I like to enchant gloves and stuff with minor utility spells and unload them all in one city. My Whiterun should be known as Skyrim's largest exporter items with carry weight enchantments.

  • garnth - 9 points - 4 years ago

It always made me sad that, short of exploits, alchemy was like the least useful skill in every Elder Scrolls game by the end. I guess maybe if you completely forgo weapon skills and rely on poison and potions to make up the damage, but I always felt like it needed some extra punch to make potion crafting (again, the non-exploity non-exponential growth kind) to be useful for longer.

    On a similar note,

    Dear shopkeepers of Skyrim:

I was not trying to steal that sword, bow, sweetroll, herb, or soul gem. I was trying to talk to you to pay you money for things. I was trying to sell you the juicy, juicy loot that I acquired by slaying the many things much larger and more dangerous than you are that I encountered on my most recent journey into the world.

If I pick something up by accident because you put it right on the counter in front of you, and then have to kill you and your family because of it, it's really your fault, isn't it?

If you watch where he comes from, he's the guard from the bottom of the stairs in Dragonreach, just before you go up to the jarl. so that kinda ruins it.

  • FatGirlsNeedLuv2 - 21 points - 4 years ago

Similarly when Balgruufs housecarl sends guards to riverwood you can follow them as they run there.

It's the same thing they did in Morrowind after you meet your first contact. The blades leader says the same thing. Like they are all connected...

  • Chasnay - 37 points - 4 years ago

The M'aiq in Oblivion also says things about dragons. Not directly, as he was a liar up until Skyrim.

  • Chrischn89 - 102 points - 4 years ago

If I remember correctly there was also a book about Skyrim in Morrowind which explained how the Nord lived. It was also explained that they possess the power of releasing fearsome shouts... yep those lore writers of TES really know what they're doing!

I still love oblivion for its graphics. I would stand outside the imperial city just in awe of the vastness and the beauty of the environment.

  • axdula - 55 points - 4 years ago

People need to see/play this, to understand Delphine and Esbern, and not just turn them away for wanting to kill dragons.

  • casualblair - 67 points - 4 years ago

This is a thing Bethesda knew well before anyone else. You don't just have a writing department, you have a lore department with actual historians paid to craft a proper history, complete with the loss of knowledge with age.

Blizzard started doing this during WOTLK when they realized books and comics could make them money too.

  • KaiG1987 - 23 points - 4 years ago

This is a reference to Skyrim only in that they're both drawing off established lore of the Blades. It's like saying the symbol of the Empire was a reference to Skyrim's symbol.

Sympathies for that dev for sure.

I have to say though - regardless of DVT - getting up and moving is important even if you aren't a gamer. Standing desks in the work place aren't becoming a thing for no reason. It's just bad for your health in general to be sitting around so much.

I also can't imagine sitting for 11 hours. Even on weekend long gaming sprees I get up to eat, piss, look out the window to see what the homeless people are yelling at, etc. It's mind boggling to hear of people that can stay in one spot that long.

Largely because it sounds awesome, but the PSA is pretty darn cool.

  • Zerbo - 3 points - 4 years ago

Paramedic here, this is frighteningly real. DVTs frequently happen in the bedridden population, but other risk factors include long car or plane rides, blunt trauma to the legs followed by long periods of inactivity, or sitting plying MW3 for 11 hour straight, it would seem. Clots can form and break loose, usually lodging in the pulmonary artery and causing acute respiratory failure and systemic oxygen starvation.

Get up and move around at least every 30 minutes when you've been sedentary. This helps to prevent blood pooling in the deep veins.

  • TrainerBlack2 - 3 points - 4 years ago

This, by far, has to be the sweetist thing I've seen on r/Skyrim. That's it. The moment I get a PC that can play Skyrim to it's full glory, I'm getting this mod.

  • jimtheclowned - 3 points - 3 years ago

This is why the guys who did Project Nevada for fallout NV should do something for Skyrim if possible. In proj Nevada, you could physically break the locks with explosives. not to mention all the other cool things.

Use the same system, except harder locks require better weapon skills or higher weapon damage to break? IE you can break a novice lock with a steel dagger, but need something akin to a warhammer to break a master.

  • zetindog - 2 points - 3 years ago

I think a game that included this mechanic (as well as many other equally logical and intuitive mechanics) could make Game of the Year one day. Like, a Skyrim type RPG that would let you be a "arg smash all the crates for hardy loot and forget how loud i am im tough" type guy or a "id better just quietly pick this lock and then stab the guy in the next room shhh" type guy (etc.) would be an awesome game

  • Defengar - 2 points - 3 years ago

  • b-rad-oleary - 40 points - 4 years ago

This picture is accurate. Also, for any who are wondering why Sovngarde's not in Aetherius (or at all), it's because we don't actually know where it is. Look at it this way:

Why would Shor, the patron god of Nords and all men, who was slain in battle against the gods who sought to reach Aetherius, place his realm anywhere but within the Mundus which he conceived? If you built a house which you absolutely loved, and were put under house arrest, would you stay somewhere else? No, probably not.

Just because UESP and the in-game quest journal say Aetherius doesn't make it true.

  • IgorsEpiskais - 3 points - 4 years ago

btw is getting locked out is something that's happening often? I always see shit like that in american movies, never made sense to me, how you can get locked out from your car or your home with keys remaining in car/home.

  • ppallk - 4 points - 4 years ago

Why does he look so small?

  • InvaderDem - 1 points - 3 years ago

Fuck that giant - he came to my manor in my game too. I was willing to just let him hang out, but no ... he had to go and attack me.

39. Allow me to introduce myself! Sheogorath, Daedric Prince of Madness!

Add a bit of White hair "paint" (spray, what ever the hell you call it) and you're good to go

  • KawMiZe - 1 points - 3 years ago

  • saminik - 1 points - 3 years ago

This calls for a celebration! Cheese for everyone! In fact, cheese for no one!

Cos that can be a celebration too if you don't like cheese.

  • aveilleux - 2 points - 3 years ago

Shivering Isles is, by far, my favorite expansion to any game, ever.

I was somewhat disappointed at Sheogorath's tiny and easy quest in Skyrim.

  • mikethebikeitsorange - 11 points - 3 years ago

    You look dumb

40. How I feel playing Skrim on a console after seeing all of your sweet mods

    Is that Daggerfall or Arena?

When I was a kid, I spent about 200 hours into Daggerfall without EVER leaving the city of Daggerfall .. that game was huge.

  • T_Mucks - 43 points - 4 years ago

Hey man, don't knock it. For 1994, that game had spectacular graphics. Environmental reflections, real-time weather, animated sprites, a full day/night cycle, and motherfucking goblins. I can hear the gurgle of those little fuckers approaching with the same clarity as when I first played the game.

This is how Skyrim looks on consoles? Geez

  • ShetlandJames - 40 points - 4 years ago

I think Skyrim looks great on Xbox 360, I don't know what all the fuss is about. Mods are cool but Skyrim hardly looks bad.

  • elaborate_muse - 14 points - 4 years ago

I put a ton of time into Morrowind on console. Then when it came time to pick up Oblivion I opted for PC... and thought "hey I wonder what mods do for this game..." .... an hour later I was floored. It was incredible how much the game changed, even just cosmetically. Not to mention the massive mob packs, changes in how mobs reacted to each other, open world battles between armies of things...

I love consoles don't get me wrong, but I will never buy another Elder Scrolls game for anything but PC.

  • Genesis2nd - 4 points - 4 years ago

This is my experience of Skyrim on a console after watching a friend play it on his computer.

  • Zeugirdor994 - 5 points - 4 years ago

Don't be fooled. Arena is a kickass game, as is Daggerfall.

  • captmotorcycle - 17 points - 4 years ago

    What's Skrim?

  • Tegla - 18 points - 4 years ago

Why does everything have to be about graphics?

  • _SilverStag_ - 2 points - 4 years ago

Agreed, though I must say there are moments where I'm playing vanilla Skyrim and think, "Damn. This is stunning."
