Lookin pretty gerrymandered there!
You combined Greenpoint and Williamsburg. How clever! Try calling it North Brooklyn. Like everyone already does.
Please name Staten island after indicted trump staffers
which of these wards has the highest density?
For the blue next to Greenpoint, I nominate Middlewood
A lot of these either have natural neighborhood names(Bayside in Queens) or can be described in geographic terms(Staten Island East/North/West), but it could also be interesting to name each after an important road in the ward, IE Henry Hudson Pkwy, White Plains Road, Deegan
OP do you have a pic with more of Long Island shown. Lookslike you did some of it, curious how it would look and how much population density there is.
You should probably clip to shoreline and then rerun your clustering first.
Why wouldn't you just use the PUMA areas?
central park tho?
Man this looks nice! How’d you make it? I would stick to some original names, like Flushing and Chelsea and Sheepshead Bay.
You can spiral numbers out from some central point and call them Arrondisments like Paris.
Why is 165,826.9 residents per ward desirable & will you be redrawing boundaries every day of the year to reflect births & deaths?
How are the boundaries selected? There are an infinite number of ways to divide into equal population chunks.

Say what you will, in this Amazon related instance she's not wrong. No reason Amazon needs $3B in tax subsidies to open an office here
Lot of very smooth brains in here
First of all, there was no guarantee that Amazon would fulfill the numbers quoted in this deal everyone is crying about. Do you know how frequently governments get fucked in handshake deals like this?
Second, I'd bet they'll end up increasing those numbers beyond 1500 fairly quickly. NYC had a lot of talent and it draws people from all over the world already.
I don't know what everyone is so upset about. Just let the market work, if there's a need, they'll fill it, if not, who cares? Those jobs could all be gone if the economy turns or if Amazon begins to have its own troubles.
Are those redwings boots?
Meh, I think it’s fine. I didn’t agree with driving amazon off, but them continuing to expand without the city needing to give subsidies is still a win and she can tweet about it. It’s hardly the tv advertisement blitz most politicians do. It’s also a small win. I don’t mind. Let her have it, she might in the end be right- the talent is here. Friends who work at amazon say they actually have a hard time pulling talent because people would rather work somewhere cooler. Not being in NYC would make that even harder.
So just to be clear, we're celebrating the fact that NYC gave up $27 billion in tax revenue in order to not give $3 billion in incentives.
Now we are pretending to be high IQ because AWS in moving into Hudson Yards, which received more tax breaks over the lifetime of the project than AWS was ever even asking for? And it's good?
What would really be nice is if people actually tried being New Yorkers before thinking they understand this city. These comments are comical.
All that tax talk looks great on paper. Partly why corruption exists.
Shes not wrong
I wonder why poor Conservatives hate her? She is literally standing up for you while you kiss rich assholes boots hoping that one day they will bless you will millions of dollars if you defend tax cuts for them lmao hate to break it to you but you will never be rich ever shut the fuck up
She sounds like the left version of Trump, when she twists the facts to suit her narrative. Amazon already has office spaces in Manhattan. They simply expanded that. These are high paying executives and tech jobs - which will be fulfilled by candidates from around the world. This is a drop in the ocean compared to the number of jobs HQ would have brought in.
Now, I’m against those incentives promised for Amazon, but I hate it when a person in power make statements, where they quite simply assume the electorate is dumb enough to gobble up the dross they put out.
ANd to follow up:https://twitter.com/AOC/status/1203327592243355648While we’re here, let’s clear up some GOP disinfo:- “It’s 1500 jobs vs 25,000”: The 25,000 jobs figure was a 10-20 year fantasy # from Amazon, not a promise or agreement. In exchange for that lack of commitment, they wanted billions of public $. Their Y1 jobs projection was 700.
You can't save billions if you never allow in the company that's creating the new revenue to tax. But...ok.
How did she ”save the public billions”? Does she still not understand how tax credits work?
I honestly don't agree with the social climate of New York itself anymore. This isn't the place I grew up in. Hasn't been for a long time.
Life is way easier and the real estate so much cheaper in other regions of the county. Only real tradeoff is the ignorance you deal with. But now that the ignorance has been creeping into NY for years, there's little difference socially. People are actually way friendlier elsewhere.
Always appreciate level headed exchanging though. You know how rare that is now.
This makes me so fucking mad because she’s so fucking wrong. This needs to become a meme about being in complete denial of something so painfully obvious.
I have no words for this moron anymore. She’s either just a very dumb woman or she she’s playing the part and hoping her supporters are dumb and will think these two are in any way related. Amazon has always had offices in Manhattan, this is simply an expansion while the HQ2 in Queens was something completely different altogether and would have brought far more jobs to a borough with shitty jobs. I give up. She’s like the leftist version of Trump.
another post invaded by pseudo intellectual DSA members who have the same understanding of math and economics as AOC i.e. none
This is some Trump-level self-congratulatory bullshit. People, please stop shooting yourselves in the foot and promoting this as some sort of victory. Instead of 25,000 high paying jobs, we're getting 1,500. That's 23,500 less $200k+ incomes we can tax. That's 23,500 less deals real estate agents can make when they need to find these people places to live. (Those fees also get taxed). That's 23,500 less people eating out at restaurants (and paying taxes on their meals, and tipping their servers), 23,500 less people getting their garments dry cleaned (and taxed). 23,500 less monthly metro cards every month (which brings much needed revenue to the MTA). Yes, rent might go up, but that's also more revenue for landlords, which is also taxed. Whether you like it or not, you need businesses to have an economy, and help a city function. Amazon wanted a bulk discount on bringing 25,000 high paying jobs to the city, just like you as a consumer would want a deal if they spend a lot of money at a business. I know this may be difficult to grasp, but this is not the victory you think it is.
Obligatory read, as always in these threads.
Certainly a great result. Also a certainty: her waiting for the haters to apologize is a tad juvenile at this level of government.
Lol! Conservatives flame on politicians like AOC, but stand by politicians like Gym Jordan. GTFO
This is really embarrassing. She’s so stupid. She's bragging about Amazon expanding headcount in Manhattan by 1500 after losing a new 25000+ employee campus in Queens? Amazon is expanding throughout the nation, so this isn’t special. The HQ2 in Queens would have been something entirely different.
I am as Democratic as can be and the sight of this imbecile makes me nauseous. I can not believe we lost Joe Crowley for this dumbass.
She’s the best thing to ever happen for the Republicans
1500 whole jobs at hudson yards of all places? thanks AOC, but you missed the mark here bigtime. Queens needed this boost.
I was very much against the LIC campus but her smugness on this issue is unbecoming and a little concerning. False equivalencies abound and lapdogs eat it up
No shortage of high paying corporate jobs in NYC for the well educated, or ivy leaguers. The warehouse jobs are a different story altogether.
In other shocking news, AOC says something stupid, again.
"“Won’t you look at that: Amazon is coming to NYC anyway - *without* requiring the public to finance shady deals, helipad handouts for Jeff Bezos, & corporate giveaways,” she tweeted."
Amazon WAS ALREADY in NYC. An estimated 8,000 people were working in offices they ALREADY HAD offices in NYC. The deal was for their 2nd Headquarters which WE ARE NOT GETTING.
1,500 net new jobs does not 25,000 net new jobs.
So no Amazon didn't cave. They're just adding additional workforce for the demand that is already here.
Indiana Boomers mad
Only Trumps face makes my stomach turn more than the sight of this woman
Reading AOC tweets is like watching Kramer that time he got an office job.
AOC is as retarded as most NYC voters.
Amazon already had multiple offices in NYC and hiring in the city would continue to expand with their business growth (old news). What will not happen is a second headquarters with some 25 thousand employees.
Also telling is that the company is looking for office space in Hudson Yards, an area that saw bigger tax incentives and government investment than the LIC project would have received.
And the NY Times article titled "Amazon’s Tax Breaks and Incentives Were Big. Hudson Yards’ Are Bigger."
Too bad AOC was not around to kill the Hudson Yards development, just like she helped kill the LIC one.
Won't you look at that: Just look at it!
Reminder that this dumb cunt thought that the tax breaks that were to given to amazon was cash on hand that was to be given to them. She fucking thought we were going to give them billions in cash and when she lost the 25000 jobs she said the cash could be given to schools. She’s a fucking moron
I really hope her advisors pull her coat and tell her that this isn't a good look. Its kind of childish to gloat about this.
These aren’t the same things though. We’re talking about 1,500 employees in this office versus 25,000 in HQ2.
But I guess anything is a victory if you put the right spin on it. When we get our politics from twitter, it comes as no surprise that our dialogue lacks nuance.
Rules like this get implemented when the people living there abuse the services. In my building we have a lot of people who own apartments, but this is their NYC apartment so they have months of packages stacked in the storage room. This is why we can't have nice things.
Well its Holiday rush and they only have a limited space for packages, they obviously don't want packages overflowing everywhere
My building has had to be forceful with some tenants who order big shit, but don’t pick them up in a timely manner. I’ve had tires and ACs delivered, but I always pick them up the same day.
Honestly, in my 25+ years of experience living in a doorman building, I’ve found that if you’re cool, they’ll let shit slide. If I was expecting a big package in your building, I’d come to them ahead of time, tell them that you’ll pick it up the same day, and slip them a $10. Most building staff will bend the rules if they’re taken care of.
2 foot wide by 5 feet tall is pretty large, I think this is a reasonable rule.
Also worth noting, the notice refers to a 'security guard', which is a very different role than 'doorman'. I suspect holding packages isn't actually in the job description for a guard, and is just the guy being nice.
Yes. Package holding is a favor, they don’t have to accept them unconditionally
If the tree is in a box it would probably be accepted. Loose trees I would see why they wouldn't. Those things take up a lot of space. My Doormen will take just about anything, but I wouldnt order a tree for them to hold.
It's reasonable, IMO, although the 24'x5' rule seems arbitrary. In my 20 years of living in a doorman building, i have never accepted delivery of anything 5 feet long/high via the doorman.
1.1 million packages a day. 90,000 lost or stolen every 24 hours. Unsubstantial numbers.
During this time of year when everyone's getting online shopping delivered, yeah it is.
My apartment complex is lucky enough to have a mail room but it gets full to bursting with packages during the christmas season.
It sounds like some people have not been tipping the doorman.
Does it have plates? Why do you consider it abandoned?
if the car is a total wreck like in this picture and you said they is other damage, most likely the issue is finding a tow company willing to accept the risk for towing the car. They could be issues with towing cars with pre-existing damage, like the owner of the car could say that the tow truck damage the car and so on which could cause issues.
maybe you talk to your local officials like the council member about this?
It was stolen man. Police just don’t give a fuck and are shits, too busy beating up poor people in the subway to tow a possibly rich dudes car
People forget how much sleaze there still was in Times Square in the 90s.
Fuck that guy.
Rip toys r us
It's getting more and more faded every time they pull the board attatched in front of it.
Here's what it originally looked like
Many people don't know it had a brother on the North end of the block too. That's right, Jerry Springer debuted from the same production company, at nearly the same time.
you should fax this to the guys in the other office so they can post it near the water cooler
Meh.. Queens is pretty straight edge nowadays.
