Sorry folks, didn't have reception at noon
Still can’t get over the boots
Mod Consensus: this "infographic" blows but we're leaving it up
Will probably ban infographics in the future since they rarely, if ever, actually put forward cogent information in a cogent way.
Its from OnPointFresh and posted to MFA on June 11, 2017. It received (at time of writing this) 1/10 the upvotes but the same criticism of the content.
ed2: also the fact that the guide whitewashed the hell out of one of the Joachim brothers is the definition of "disappointed but not surprised'
Someone put a lot of effort into this but forgot to turn on spell check
Black suit ain’t black tie.
Casual can be absolutely anything you want. Casual is the freedom to wear anything and be your own person.
This guide completely misses that point
So many errors where the paragraph is talking about dress pants and it's jeans, or black shoes when it's brown. So much effort to create something like this and messing up basic things...
The bottom smart casual fit...you could not pay me to wear a black shirt with a navy blazer. Not to mention that the rest of the outfit is black too.
The fact this infographic has a picture of one of the Joachim brothers from like 2012 always makes me laugh. It's just incongruous compared to the rest of the guide.
This feels like #menswear skinny tie nonsense
I feel so left out of the loop given that I wear scrubs at work. I don't have any need for business attire, so I don't have this "existing base level" of more formal stuff that I can dress down. I feel dressed up in chinos and a cardigan because that's about as far as I can ever take it and not be inappropriately dressed in social settings.
lol they lost me when in the 2nd sentence they said you shouldn't wear t-shirts for casual wear. t-shirts are fine, actually. not every situation needs a blazer lmfao
Oh boy fashion gatekeeping. Open up the pic and the first thing you see is grandstanding about how dressing down is sloppy and MATURE MEN don't do that. Wear a hoodie and some ultra boosts sometime u self indulgent loser lmao
Jeans are business casual?
How to dress like a total knob 101
lol i'm going to my next punk show in a button up and sperrys
how to be basic 101. This must be the guide for every frat bro turned sales bro out there
The shoes and belts mismatch in some of these....wtf
The traditional tux is the only time a bow tie is ever acceptable.looks up at the dinner jacket pic
The traditional tux is the only time a bow tie is ever acceptable.

Just about any infographic will get upvoted these days, huh
This guide is such wannabe pretentious bullshit.
Why do some of the models wear sunglasses when they don’t have eyes??
Excellent dress codes for someone who wants to be the most boring looking generic person in the world
Beyond the many problems everyone else has pointed out, I'm also super confused about the terrible colour grading and tones? The blacks look brown, the navy is electric blue, so on.
This is TERRIBLE for an infographic. I get that it has its own style, but if the point is to inspire guys to create new outfits and match items it's a terrible tool because they can't see the actual colours and how they should look to the eye side by side. Guys are already notoriously bad at color matching, you don't need to gaslight them with this too?
Did alpha m make this guide?
I swear all I see with the third casual option is "frat boy" chic?
"When you have to dominate in the conference room" Someone has been listening to too much Gary V
This is pretty cheesy. It's definitely a "I made money with tech so I need to dress better guide".
Maybe I dress a bit too much like a man-child with my streetwear style, but I can't be walking around in a white shirt /burgundy sweater combo.
I am sorry but I can't follow these infographics, all the looks are non creative and sad. You can find guys like this everywhere.
How to dress without any imagination or self reflection.
Missing semi-formal, wrong on black tie, missing white tie... I'll hard-pass on this guide.
Can the term smart casual just die already? Like can it be permanently erased from our collective memories?
Jesus Christ am I glad I work in retail and not in any scenario where this is the norm.
I’m sorry, but this all just looks basic. It looks very bland sort of like tyou walked into an express store.
Nothing but boring white people shit that you usually would see on a yacht
What is it about men's fashion that is so fucking dull, chromatically? Even the reds, blues and green in these examples are dark, pastel and dull. Why must we have to put up with this? Looking for shoes, unless you go for trainers, are always the same colours. Same for trousers, jackets, jumpers. Why is this? I listened to a Grayson Perry interview the other day and he talks about it being "bird hide" because men are the ones who hide and watch whereas women are out on display and objectified. What do you all think?
This is not good.
This is one of the most pretentious things I have ever seen in my life. I'm glad I dont hang out with people that cares this much about how professional you dress.
wow this is beyond boring
Oxfords with jeans? No fucking way!
Why does every model look like an asshole frat business school bro?
I just want to note that tie bars are literally never seen in offices where suits are required in Manhattan and every time I see them it’s a dead giveaway the wearer is an amateur (not someone who actually spends time in a suit and tie environment).
I’d love to see something like this (if it exists) for precious decades.
Remarkable how dated these silhouettes are looking.
Wow this is so boring.
Kinda annoying how none of these things have people of color in them like ever.
I feel like the last thing a grey suit should do is "turn heads"
Oxfords are “casual”, my ass. Pardon me for not wanting to dress like a pretentious douche on my days off.
more like a guide to trying to blend in when being a leader of the alt-right
None of this would work for me.
Where comes in my hoodie ?
Shouldn’t the “Leon” outfit be under Professional?
For all you aspiring American Psychos out there
For 90% of people, turning up to a casual event with friends wearing a button up shirt and Oxfords will result in ridicule. Like, I know we all like to dress up here, but damn throw on a t shirt some time
“ey bro let me copy your homework”“yeah but change it a bit so they won’t notice”
Now that everyone has shit in this, is there a better version of this somewhere? I'm new here and was about to go buy a suit to go to a picnic
Hmm. Its a little restrictive in my opinion. Some guys might see this and think that a suit jacket or blazer is required for every outfit. I'm thinking of making a similar guide with more layers to the different areas.
You couldn't pay me to wear a denim shirt
I would argue that sunglasses are not an optional accessory but a critical component of your fit when you're a member of the eyeless yet moderately fashionable pod people invading earth.
This sucks ass
This thing sucks
Ugh I think jeans and a blazer is a horrible combination. It can almost work with black jeans, but with any blue jeans it’s horrible.
Ahh yes.. the “I huff my own farts out of an empty water bottle” starterpack
How the hell is this getting upvotes?
It literally lost me with the first two sentences.
"Casual should never mean sloppy. You should always dress to impress" If I'm cleaning up dog shit in the back yard or painting, I don't care what I look like.
Here I am sitting in an old tee and gym shorts on my day off. Depressions is a bitch, boys.
I would hardly consider jeans business casual. Even dark, fitted denim. Khakis/Chinos are as “casual” as pants should be there.
I was lost but am so glad I found this chart to tell me exactly how do dress in any situation.
White guys only...
I broke down all the menswear styles that i know of. Created a whole list.
Jeans + Shoes, no way
Man I want a nice shirt so bad but I have severe ocd and end up washing all my clothes and shoes a lot and anything I buy would be destroyed before I knew it :(
With the smart casual, what colour would go with a like pink (salmon/pastel pink) trousers? Works’ do is Sunday and want to try and look sharp. I’ll probably accompany the trousers with a navy sweater or baby blue sweat.
Just casually standing sideways on a ladder in my brown suede tassel loafers.
cries in mint polo
Serious question: what’s the deal with skinny jeans? I really don’t care for how they look on me, but they seem to be a popular recommendation.
Wear socks.In any even semi-professional environment.Wear socks.
This just makes me think of my dad trying to get me to wear polos when I was younger. It's never happening.
I have been doing this without realizing that they are powerful statement lols
Casual is business casual on a lot of places
How is this post up voted and gilded when it's so shit and all the comments agree it's shit.
I found this pretty helpful. I think some of those outfits look good tbh, though I’m not one to really wear anything except my ultraboosts or dress shoes.
Lol, step 1 in this guide ; Acquire great head of hair
I just wanna know who stole their eyes.
Okay. I’m a total scrub at dressing up. For each of these do you have to have an undershirt? Like a white tee underneath the dress shirt? Because if so, I feel like it’s going to get really hot everyday and I’m going to be sweating wearing that many layers
Used to wear that shit in late 70's pmpl
Where would “causal chic” fall in here?
Thank mod I read the comments almost fell for the s***
Oxfords! Oxfords!! Oxfords!!!
No mention of bluchers/derbies; and they would be way more appropriate for half of those outfits.
Where I work polos fall under the business casual definition.
I wonder what this person wears at home...
I’d like to see more of the outdoor trades man outfits for this . Sometime those dudes be soo scrub out it’s embarrassing.
No grey suit? I feel that has a place in one of these looks.
Can we get a “hot as hell” 80 degrees+ during fall and sometimes winter guide? I’d love to wear a v neck sweater for casual but it’s too dang hot!
Exnay on the brown belt with black shoes
My question is, "why are they wearing sunglasses if they don't have eye's"?
I like the animation by why no eyes?
The third guy is Steve from Minecraft
This is really far from excellent
where in the world is business casual a button up and a jeans
This is like an New England guide. West Coast casual is very, very different.
If this is like day one of your caring about fashion, then I guess this is useful, but it’s very, very bland, and very white.
This guide only works if you rock it 100% of the time your friends see you. You can rock the suit no tie to a Sunday brunch if people have only ever seen you wearing a suit
Which category does my Slayer shirt fall into? Dumb casual?
From a design perspective this is pretty good. But as an infographic it's crap. Would anyone interested in me redoing it? Sounds like this just ruined infographic for everyone...
lmao this is shit
Professionals have standards.
I’d hate to have to wear something with a collar in every situation. Also lol’d at business casual including shirts unbuttoned up to the lower chest.
The 3rd guy in cool casual looks like Jean Reno in The Professional. He’s also standing above the Professional dressing guide label.
Business casual should NOT have that many buttons undone unless you’re trying to get fired.
Cool guide. FYI, you missed an "s" in "dress shirt" under professional.
Whelp, guess I’m wearing a suit to yoga
You never wear a black tie with a tux
I’d stay away from tie clips.
Since many people are getting triggered for no reason, let me clarify:
This guide is for DRESS CODES. If you go “cleaning your dog’s shit” or “to a club with friends” you don’t have an official dress code. Street wear has an important place in society.
What I intend to give with this is some clarity to when someone hands out an invitation to some kind of situation they are holding, and it has a distinct dress code mentioned, how to dress for it. If someone says “welcome to my baby shower thing whatever, dress casual” they don’t mean loose gangsta shirt and college pants. They probably mean sweater/jumper + trousers.
I see some issues too with this infographic, such as mismatched belt + shoes, jeans + oxfords and no grey suit mentioned in any section??? But it still is useful if you want to know how to dress to an occasion “smart casual”.
TL;DR;This is a beginner guide on how to dress to semi-formal occasions such as celebrations. Please don’t get offended if it doesn’t include your street wear preferences.
Everyone seems to be missing the purpose of this guide. It's not claiming that these examples are the only styles or levels of formality a man can wear, it's just explaining how to respond to dress codes for events. Even if a party / work event has a 'casual' dress code, you still aren't going to show up in a hoodie and trackies are you? A white shirt and a nice jumper are a sensible choice that still allows you to look polished, well-groomed and professional without coming across as overdressed.
It is a bit off when it comes to black tie however. The middle one is not black tie, that's a man dressed for a funeral. Only the bottom example is always correct, and swapping the dinner jacket for a white one should only be done if the event is in a tropical setting, or at a stretch outdoors on a hot summer's evening.
I don't know why so many dudes in here are butt hurt.
Nobody is saying you can't wear sneakers, sweats, graphic tees and hoodies, and most of that stuff doesn't take a lot of effort to put together.
Unless you are wearing the high end name brands, you can basically grab anything and walk out of the door and you will look fine. So you don't really need a guide for it
However dressing for work, dressing for professional events, dressing for fashion, dressing to be noticed, does take effort. You really can't slapdash your way into a good outfit, hence the guide.
I have no idea why anybody would come to a fashion subreddit then complain that it takes to much work and effort to dress fashionably.
That is literally the point of fashion. Putting in the effort to look nice.
Why is there so hate much here? Its basic sure. But thats about it.
All those guys have full heads of hair.
Love this, thank you!
I’m sorry but tucking a button down into a pair of jeans is just flat out wrong.
This is a great guide!
Damn as someone who doesn't closely follow fashion but likes the lookbooks and shit this guide just looked like some nice ideas and color combos for dressing well. Doesn't have to be taken as bible nor followed 100% of the time. Why y'all so angry about clothing
This loses me at the white dress shirt in the first “casual” outfit.
Freshest looks? Looks like he is going to crochet me a sweater haha

Hanging at home for most of the day
I'd probably wear them to my cousin's house casually for a little while, then throw them into the back of my closest for four years, then give them to charity. Probably.
Cut them into shorts
Don't know your style, but personally, I'd rock it.
Congrats on the new American eagle jeans
I've had these Levi's for a handful of years and wore a hole in the right knee that has turned into this, what I think is a bit of a mess. Perhaps orst of all, it's ripped vertically (at the bottom) so I imagine I'll at least have to cut horizontally from the lowest point. What advice has Reddit got to make this rip look better? Or have these now been relegated to becoming a new pair of jorts?
Search results are a sea of endless ad-filled, influencer garbage. None touch on the inadvertent vertical rip regardless.
Ship em to Self Edge
Repair with darn it.
I have almost the same issue.. I used multiple safety pins along the vertical rip. Has a cool punk look. As for this I don't know if it'd be comfortable.
Jorts of course
Patching/Sewing wouldnt be very hard you could probably do it yourself for less than $5 in an hour or so
They look ripped right at the knees so it wouldn’t be that hard to turn them into shorts.
Dangle your dingle out the dingus hole
You could just cut up the jeans into small patches incase one day you have another pair that starts to develop a hole
Just get them patched/repaired.
