It's a Masterpiece, a very rare card, and worth a good chunk of cash. Get it into a sleeve ASAP.
You've opened a Kaladesh Invention Masterpiece, one of a bunch of cards that were printed at a special higher rarity, mostly reprints of powerful cards from past Magic sets.
The one that you've got there was originally printed in Scars of Mirrodin (2010), and currently goes for about $180. Nice pull!
They have started doing occasional sets of limited foils of cards with a thematic border appropriate to try e set. You basically have had some good luck and picked up a $200 booster

Super rare, worth a bunch.
Here's the value: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/price/Kaladesh+Inventions:Foil/Mox+Opal#paper
Don't take anything less than maybe 130-150 for that. It's worth a LOT
I haven't really looked at any of the sets past Nemesis/Prophecy block, but I know when I quit that anything involving Moxes was something special. I see that the foil rare bas a different symbol than the rest of the set...is this an error?
Alright, so it sounds like you're looking to sell this. Probably a good choice! Someone like you will probably get a lot more out of selling it and picking up something else than keeping it.
It's easy to look up prices and think "Man, I'm going to sell this for $180, score!" but the reality is: No, you probably won't. Shops like StarCityGames or the local store might sell it at that price because people will buy from them at that price, but you're not a local store and you're not SCG.
Let's start with the basics: Probably the highest you can even hope to get is $150. That's the cheapest price I could find a near-mint one from a trusted retailer online. You'd have to be pretty lucky to find someone that'll buy from you at that price, though. If you're looking to get as much cash as fast as possible, the lowest you should let it go for is probably $90 (StarCityGame's buylist price, you'll need an account to view their buylist). There might be other buylists out there with better prices, but SCG usually gives you a good sense of what vendors will buy them for. You might find buylists out there offering $100 or $110 even, if you want to dig a bit.
If you stop at your local store, they might offer you less. Feel free to haggle up towards 90, they might not be able to buy it for 90, that's fine, and you don't have to settle for less if you don't want to. Haggling above $100 to any sort of vendor is going to be a tough sell.
If you're looking for a good deal, you'll want to sell directly to someone who wants that exact card. You won't be able to do that at a local game store, so you'll need to use social media. There's several high-end buy/sell groups on Facebook, there's ebay, and there's a couple reddit subs where you can sell. Facebook has the advantage of more easily letting you check to make sure someone isn't trying to scam you, so unless you're particularly averse to it I'd probably post on there.
The standard "I'd like to sell this in pretty short order" price is the lowest near-mint price online minus 10%. That'd mean you could get about $135 for this, ideally, though you've also probably got to cover shipping in that case. It might sell faster at $125, or you might be able to get away with selling it at $140. That's your call. Be aware that shipping troubles could happen, and you should look into how you're shipping it if you want to do this. If the bonus ~$45 doesn't sound worth the trouble, stopping at a local game store or shipping it off to an online vendor with a good buylist is probably your best bet.
Tl;dr: You can probably get $90 for this in short order, or $130 if you're willing to look for someone to sell directly to.
What a nice welcome back!
I opened one of these a while back, they're super pretty! :D
Other people have already told you how much it’s worth, but I’d definitely recommend trying to sell it on EBay or one of the MTG Facebook groups. I know the High End Magic group is one of the best ones!
I buy packs for fun all the time and I always get shit. Lol. Congrats, OP!
Trash card, I'll take it off your hands. Take my word for it, I'm a friendly stranger on the internet.
Curious, but how would you rate the visual appearance of the card being that you haven't seen most of the recent changes.
As others have mentioned in the last few years wizards has put special cards in their boosters. They're rare and involve cards that aren't in the normal set and have generally served as a way to reprint cards that they couldn't put in a normal set and draw some attention to their new product.
Ya done struck gold!
What the fuck? You just pulled the tenth Power Nine card, from Kaladesh Inventions, no less, from a SINGLE pack that you bought.
Congrats, you just turned 4.12 or whatever the price of your booster into 175+. Even to an LGS thats still a good 80+ cash (depending on the LGS)
...yeah, about that. While the Cart Optimizer has no hard-coded upper limit, each card you add will make it increasingly likely that the system cannot find a solution within a reasonable amount of time, and instead produces the error.
Or, as the great Han Solo once kind of said: "I don't think they had Battle of Wits in mind when they designed her, Chewie."
I love the wits lists that are just 5c and have like 4 other decks in them so they dont even need battle to win.
6 dollars shipping for 2K dollars of content? worth it
I love Battle of Wits. I played it in standard to a 3-1 finish in it's most recent stint. I built a 60 singleton mono blue deck, then just multiplied all the cards by 4.
This reminds me of when I tried to throw a decklist for a cube in here to avoid typing everything out.... Yeah it didn't work lol.
Cart Optimizer is a joke. Optimize your cart yourself for best results. It's an algorithmically likely-impossible task to perform, and I always get worse results with it.
But you could buy a budget legacy deck for a little more
I'm really glad this isn't Ugin. I want them to save Ugin for the inevitable. "I'm not here to tell you so, I'm here to save the day." when killing the titans backfires.

MaRo and the marketing team "We got you fam"
Cut and Paste strikes again.
"Due to Ixalan well recieved Limited enviroment and great impact on both standard and all eternal formats we are hereby cancelling RIX for another go at IXL!"
It’s a bold move Cotton, let’s see if it pays off
"Well, energy is so strong that we don't have a reason to sell explorers of ixalan"
Probably just a typo
I'm sure it's just an error...why would the prerelease not contain the set it's trying to promote
When will the misery end.
Maybe from Ixalan block. You know, like 4 packs from RIX and 2 from ixalan.
FYI I'm aware it may be a typo or "packs from the Ixalan sets" I just found it funny
Surprise ! RIX was in Ixalan all along !
I'll run back Ixilan pre-release, bring on the dinos bb
This is their Vorthosy way of emphasizing just how hard it is to find Orazca.
The first Ixalan prerelease went so well they decided to just run it back.
A bit off topic: can someone tell me when we're able to preorder RIX?
Lazy cut and paste mistakes are the reason a Constructed GP costs what a Limited one used to
Mark Rosewater - The players can't complain about Rivals of Ixalan if we never release it. taps forehead
What is a magic open house? Do you get to play with the set before the prerelease?
Oh my a typo on a WOTC product I refuse to believe that
Either a typo or that means block. Either way, v funny.
They have never once in the history of ever just said Ixalan, not included the word "block", and meant it to refer to the entire Ixalan block.
Yes, it's obviously a typo. But seriously people... no, they didn't mean Ixalan block.
You have to specify how many of each pack you get. It's not like it's left up to the store to decide how to distribute the 6. It's not like the prerelease here is 4 and 2 packs while the one across the street is 3 and 3.
Triple strike confirmed!
It's just one dinosaur moving really fast. Similar effect as with the Olsen "twins".
Im loving the new vampire art. Looks like Olivia if she was WB instead of BR. She could be Saint Elenda.
Everyone's talking about Kumena and the new triple header Dino, and I'm over here excited because the vampire they're using for the main "Vampires Are Here Too" art in RIX has to be Saint Elena, right?
All of that art is gorgeous.
Expecting a legendary Elder Dinosaur of each color, I thought I saw a comment from wotc or msro or something about it
Hm. There are NO iconic creatures (Angels, Sphinxes, Demons, Dragons, and Hydrae) in IXN. Given that we know for a fact that there’s a Sphinx in ROI and we’re most likely getting a Bat Demon named Aclazotz, perhaps there’s a cycle of iconic creatures in ROI and this is a Dinosaur Hydra?
I’m also interested in that queenly-looking vampire. Given her proximity to two story-relevant characters (Angrath and Kumena, as seen in [[Overflowing Insight]]), and that huge black rose on her breast, I think it’s safe to assume this is Saint Elenda. Looks like I was wrong to assume that she was really a vampire bat demon god that was remembered as a saint. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
The main merfolk featured is certainly Kumena. See [[Overflowing Insight]].
do you have to combine three 3/3 Dinosaur tokens to summon the three headed dinosaur?
Gimme Kumena NOW!!!
That dragon does look sweet.
Time to see Alex Steacy's brain explode....
I would stake money on Kumera having an interaction with the City’s Blessing mechanic. We know from overflowing insight he plans to use the sun.
Now what does that mean if he’s a planeswalker? Will we see flip walkers that flip if you have the city’s blessing? That’d be cool flavour, that they’re creatures until they have the power to escape the binding.
Oh shit! Crazy idea. What if all of the characters depicted on the card sleves and deck boxes are planeswalkers. Could explain why they put Kumena and the vampire lady with Angrath who is a confirmed planeswalker. That is basicly whst they did for Ixalan with Jace, Huatli, and Vraska.
Presumably, each head represents a Sun aspect.
I use this as well. Carries decks incredibly well, plenty of extra storage spaces. Only complaint, if it can really be called that, is its a bit bulky so it kinda looks funny like a huge turtle shell on the back.
That said its a much cheaper version of the pirate labs backpack, although I cant compare the quality or whether or not the pirate labs looks like a turtle shell on your back. They just have the same storage options.

Thanks for the tip. I probably won't buy that exact bag, but I found another camera bag that I think will fit my needs better; so thanks. :)
Is there a chance the straps could bend?
Professor! Review this!
Is it waterproof?
Have been using this for about 6 months now and its honestly the best magic bag i've ever used. especially for going to tournaments it makes it so easy
I'm a film student and I use my lowepro camera bag and I love it. It looks good, has the movable compartments, has a waterproof pullout cover, but was a bit more expensive.
I've had this for a while and I'm a huge fan.
A lot of these "Amazon Basics" which are not expensive at all and are really good!
This looks very similar to the Pirate Labs bag which I have and love. I’m going to guess (read: rationalize to myself) that there are small differences that make the Pirate Labs bag better overall for specifically Magic. But considering the higher price tag on the Pirate Labs bag, this looks like a great option on a smaller budget.
use one of these myself, it's this bag here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01E3HA07S/ picked it up six months ago and it's been awesome. a few things i'll mention, first the k&f; bag only fits the smaller 4 pocket ultrapro binders but i can fit two of them in the pockets with no issues, fitting the larger 9 page binders does not really work. second, the side strap for tripods holds hard playmat cases pretty well but the best option i found was this soft bag https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071DT7KHK which is water resistant and very nice. the slim profile of the backpack is also great at events and the bag stands on it's own, when i break it open at events and folks get a look at the inside it often receives compliments and folks ask about it often. highly recommended.
i'll also mention that i tried this bag first https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IOSG076 and it was too small, the dimensions were not listed correctly and did not hold enough so i returned it.
I also use this bag. The one downside is taking things out require you to lay it flat or keep what you need in the top portion of the bag.
That looks almost identical to Pirate Lab's backpack.
Do you know by any chance if the Ultimate Guard Arkhive fits in the middle/side section?
How loosely or tightly does it hold the stuff inside? I keep my decks in bundle/fat pack boxes. While I plan to open the backpack up in a manner that wouldn't cause the boxes to fall out, I'm worried that there might be enough space for the lids to get slightly loose. All it takes is a couple inches of space and some weird set of circumstances that gets a card loose and sandwiched in a way that destroys it.
As a photographer, I have accumulated a fair amount of camera bags over the years. I have recycled a couple into carrying/storage for my cards. They really do work great!
Does anyone happen to know how well it fits the Ultrapro Satin Towers?
A friend recommended this to me and it is the best thing I have ever purchased. It holds 8 of my decks (each housed in deck boxes much like what OP has in the picture), dice, my playmat and most importantly IT WILL HOLD A 4 ROW binder and has room for an additional smaller binder too. At at around $30 was quite a bargain. I highly highly highly recommend this to other bags on the market.
This is an excellent idea! I think I'll order one after Christmas. I get tired of my deck boxes and dice just falling around loosely at the bottom of a backpack. Nice thing is, that laptop section would double nicely for my 3DS or Switch whenever I'm on the go for long periods of time. :D
Does this fit satin towers standing or only on their sides?
I have an extra camera bag that I use to tote around edh decks. I recommend it to everyone. Especially when you consider they’re designed to hold several Ks worth of camera equipment, making them perfect for your several Ks worth of blinged out decks.
Will this fit a 600 count white box?
My only concern is that if this bag is (or becomes) ubiquitous among photographers, it could end up being targeted by thieves.
On the bright side, the bag is actually pretty generic looking, so that seems unlikely.
Can it fit a playmat tube
Is it tall enough to fit an 800 count long box?
Yup, I use one for my guitar amp, and one for my magic cards. They're great bags.
Not related to OP's bag but I'll always recommend Timbuk2 bags if you're looking for one. They're nearly indestructible and look really nice. They're not as cheap as OP's but they're cheaper than piratelabs.
I have the Medium Classic bag and absolutely love it. I actually picked it up used off ebay for half price. Here's a link to their amazon page: https://www.amazon.com/Timbuk2-1108-Classic-Messenger-Bag/dp/B071R6QNTR/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid;=1513188917&sr;=8-4&keywords;=timbuk2&th;=1&psc;=1
I got this for my bro last year!, it works great and he loves it
My main carrier.
yes! this is what i use too! amazon camera bags are the best!
How well would this deal with edh decks? I can't tell if it'd fit towers or not but otherwise would it be fine?
But where do I put my snacks?
I bought one of these about 2 months ago. Can't recommend it enough. It's so damn amazing.
I play magic and shoot film... I thought this was r/analog and I'm excited cause I need a new camera bag
I use the camera bag too, it’s perfect and 100 dollars cheaper than the magic bag. The outside loops normally used for camera tripod are used to hold my mat tube.
I've been using this bag for my magic cards for a couple of years now. Its held up really well. The side pockets are great for dice and such. It can even hold a medium size binder inside with the cards. The larger 9 pocket ones are just a bit too large to fit. I use the side strap that was meant for a tripod to carry a play mat or two rolled up. The inside pockets adjust easily. I can fit a fat pack box inside or one of the larger command/pro tower commander boxes. The Pro Satin boxes are a great fit as well. Its a great bag for an all day event or get together where you want a bunch of cards with you. I still prefer my Power 9 Pro Dragon's Egg for FNM and GP's.
I have the same one! I love it. While I like satin towers, you can fit a TON of Ultra pro boulders in there. Binder room in the back!
Have to agree completely. I picked up one of their Sling bags to use for when I go to GPs; It easily holds my playmat, draft supplies, EDH deck, my Flip'N'Tray with my Standard and Modern, and there's enough room to stick a 4-card binder. The awesome thing is I don't have to take the bag off to reach the main decks, so I'm less likely to have my bag taken.
I don't remember who recommended it to me, but it's totally worth the $20.
A friend of mine picked up a similar bag recently and loves it. I’ve started going to PPTQs and GPS earlier this year so I’m definitely getting one
I have this bag as well. It is really great and can hold a ton of cards. I found it to be a bit bulky for my needs in the long run. I ended up going with a slightly smaller camera bag that is a little easier to maneuver with at the LGS.
The thing I like the most about this one is that the front door on bag is small and easy to open in cramped areas unlike the Amazon bag. The side loading laptop pocket is also really nice as long as you don't have a huge binder. The tripod straps also have a really nice pocket under it for helping to secure the playmats. The Amazon has a similar pocket, but it isn't adjustable and it a bit cumbersome. I am able to securely fit 3-4 playmats rolled together which is great when my family goes to play.
And with all of that, I still don't even use that bag as my primary anymore. I shifted to using an aluminum case from Harbor Freight simply because it can hold more EDH decks than the other two. Pretty sure I saw a different post on here about this case which got me to try it out.
It is more awkward than the other two but it holds 15 EDH decks and a couple of smaller decks easily, including an Ultimate Guard Twin Flip'n'Tray 200. The Amazon bag generally holds ~12 total while the camera bag I got can hold ~9-11 total.
So if I am planning on playing a ton of EDH then I bring the case. If I want to have easy mobility or I am going somewhere I know is going to be cramped, I bring the bag. The Amazon bag has been relegated to actually holding my camera equipment.
Or if you want to go even better, get a pelican case. They’re damn near indestructible, people in war zones have actually had them in mortar strikes and survived, and they have a lifetime warranty for anything that isn’t shark attacks, bear attacks, and children under the age of 5. They are watertight, crushproof, and dust proof.
Of course, you’re looking at spending like $700 to protect your cards, but your cards are worth it, right?
I use this one too! I got the orange and black one from last year. It's great, durable, and customizable for a fraction of the cost of the Pirate Lab backpack of similar design and build.
Do you have any Arkhives? And if yes, do they fit in the side channels?
Nice find, OP, but can I ask what is the deck box in the top right corner?
And I found an even better bag for only $10 more!Has more more features:Zipper bag for diceLock to secure your cardsLooks nice (imo)
Nice, but I stopped using backpacks since they're way too easy to steal from.
Seems like a great tool, but also a great way to make it even more likely for your cards to be stolen. Not every potential thief knows that magic cards are expensive. Pretty much every shady character knows what an SLR bag looks like.

Best part, the bag was like $39! Highly recommended, the best I've found so far.
Not an artist or an alterer by any extent, so take it with a grain of salt but for a first attempt it’s good. Probably needed better color matching with the blue fumes, doesn’t really match the card art. Also just need some cleaning near the name, I have seen some people clean it with a toothpick to ensure clean lines. But the building matching on the left side looks good and just a bit more practice, you will be doing good work.
Your paint is too thick-ideally, you want it to be the consistency of milk, as this will allow you to apply more layers without overly increasing the thickness and weight of the card, and it will also allow you to blend in your colors easier. I would also recommend that you get a damp toothpick and gently scrape away the paint around the text boxes, but as a first attempt, I've definitely seen a lot worse than this. Keep it up!
My best advice is NOT do a card you want to do "now". Do a card that looks very easy to alter. And when i say "alter" I mean extend. Just do some small extends. And get down the color matching and strokes. This card was one that was easier, and gets your confidence up. http://media-dominaria.cursecdn.com/attachments/128/951/635367128509401896.jpg
When I color mix, i just focus on getting the base of the colors, and then throw in some white or black as needed. Some cards are difficult, like 8-10 hours, some cards could look descent in 1-2.
I would say you choose a hard card, cards that are like 100% computer graphics are sometimes very difficult, the impressionist ones are very easy.
It's a good start. As a tip, when you want to make the lines straight (at the top of the card) don't be afraid to use another card or a low adhesive painter's tape. Laying either down where you're painting will give you a sharp line.
This is a good start. Keep practicing but nothing that's worth anything. I would practice on full art lands from like battle to zendikar. Or something like that. But nice job and good luck!
This was in an actual Unstable draft game, not just a side un-game. [[Enter the Dungeon]] is currently banned in Commander, making it fetch-able with [[Spike, Tournament Grinder]]. The spell was properly announced to the entire store in the style of the title. And the best part, our round went to time in the subgame. The judge had to come kneel down under the table, and tell us how to resolve extra rounds in a subgame: Five extra turns in the subgame, followed by five extra turns in the main game. He sounded confident, but it turns out, he just made up the rules on the spot.
Now play [[Skull Saucer]].

So how do you break the symmetry on this card?
Enter the Dungeon is my fav silver bordered card!

Wow it sounds like these LGS are really losing the patronage of some fine, upstanding members of the community.
I read that as "anti-whale" and got really mad for a moment.
Weird. My LGS has lots of white males. Lots of white females, non-white males, and non-white females too. You'd think as one of the biggest LGSs in my city, maybe even country, they would be pushing these so-called anti-white male policies harder (or at all). Why do people seem to think that not allowing douchebaggery is some sort of personal attack?
I'm curious. What are WOTC's anti-me policies?
Spoilers: "pro-PoC, pro-women" ARE NOT equal to "anti-white, anti-male"! Lifting other people up does not actually put you down, unless your identity was based on oppressing others!
Digital Marketer here. The LGS owners should take the necessary steps to have these removed if possible. Google, bing, yelp, etc all have different policies but most do not allow racism or demeaning reviews. It can be a long and arduous process but they need to definitely try and have them taken down.
a few weeks back they did this to a wine farm here in MD. most were fake accounts which had never been to the establishment. the incident occurred after Richard Spencer had his third party booking company anonymously book an event for Spencer's think-tank and once the members showed up in unmarked vans, the staff at the wine farm realized who they were and asked them to leave, refunding their deposit.
alt-right trolls from across the internet descended onto review pages for about a week or so. they're the actual worst.
What are these policies they speak of?
No, wait, come back....
And nothing of value was lost
Now this is stupid.
If they feel their opinions were legitimate, why do they need to brigade and troll to share them?
The only "anti-white, anti-male" attitude I see are the people who think bullying bullshit is somehow inherently white or male and therefore opposing bullying bullshit is somehow against whiteness and maleness.
I usually try to temper all of my online postings. I ask myself, “If somebody 5 years from now looked me up and read my post history, would I be ashamed of this post?”
With that in mind: What the fuck is this shit? “Anti-white, anti-male”? It’s not a fucking zero sum game. They can have pro-female policies that are not anti-male. They can have pro-minority policies that are not anti-white. I’d go so far as to say pro-female or pro-minirity policies would likely pro-male or pro-white (respectively) as well. I.e., everybody benefits from the game having a broader player base.
I assume my previous post was removed for my frankly unacceptable language... I was more than a bit hot under the collar at the time (Sorry mods!)
The important bit is to make everyone aware this is happening, so you can leave some good reviews for your LGS to counterbalance the "Reviews" being left by trolling.
Did your store do anything beyond still stocking MTG product?
I actually just sold 90% of my collection because of this. I kept casual stuff to play with friends. My LGS have become a haven of this anti-feminist bigot style of player. After the word faggot was dropped around me enough I just decided the community is no longer for me until I move out of the deep South.
"Equality looks like oppression to those who had been the oppressors"
That review would guarantee I'd check the place out. If these idiots are against it, the store must be doing something right.
It's funny how many people in this community take "don't be an asshole" as a personal assault on everything they hold dear.
I truly can't begin to imagine how the alt-right mind works. It always seems to be:
Angry white guy starts making cruel, tasteless jokes and harassing others.
Angry white guy gets called out on it, but makes a case that it's freedom of speech. He neglects that it does not mean he's free from the consequences of that speech; he lashes out worse.
Somehow, everything and everyone is now against white males.
I just can't understand how someone goes from "got called out for acting like a jerk" to white supremacy. Does it arise from their parents never believing they did anything wrong? Is this an effect of the "everybody gets a trophy" movement? Seriously, the coping skills are so, so deficient in these people. There's got to be something this can be traced to.
I mean at least you can read that review and see it's batshit.
It does hurt the aggregate scores but people love to read 1 star reviews. And they'll see those and just guess this was a crazy person/targeted effect of sabotage.
I feel sorry for the LGS that it took so long for such people to stop supporting it.
It looks like they're even following a script. Can't even be bothered to write a thought out review. Good riddance I say.
As a white male, I would absolutely visit a place that had a review like this on it.
I would consider it a recommendation "The idiotic white males aren't here, its safe to come in for everyone else"
WTF, I am a white male and I think wizards pushing for more inclusive policies is fantastic! The more we can include races, sexes, and all other types of individuals the better.
What really worries me is jeremeys petition almost has 10k signatures... that many people believe in this bull...
Oh no, the most annoying people in the store left.
Is there anything these bigoted morons aren't actively trying to ruin, anymore?
well those arent really bad reviews anyone who reads the reviews instead of just looking at stars are going to realize that the people who left them are shitlords whose opinions have no place in modern society
Just removed a local player from my "friends" list because of asking people to sign a petition to unban the toolbags because it happened online and not in person...
I hate the term SJW. It’s used solely to discredit someone. It’s the equivalent of name calling. If you disagree with someone tell them what you disagree with and why and leave the discrediting terms out of the conversation.
Context? Why are people doing this?
those look like 5* reviews to me
Why are all my hobbies infested with these dipshits?
I know some of it is just people that don't even play magic being outrageous, but, if this can get some of the awful people that make playing magic in public places genuinely uncomfortable and intimidating for people like me to stop coming to stores, I may actually go to events again.
The dumpster fire spreads as the alt right rhetoric machine goes into a rage induced overdrive.
Thanks for leaving our community, please, never come back.
Can't we all just play cards already?
As someone on the political right, I do feel left out by WotC's political stances at times. However, (1) I'm here to play a super-fun game and I'll play with anyone at any time, and (2) these assholes leaving negative reviews don't represent me at all.
This makes it easy to find LGSs that don't tolerate people like this.
It's so ironic. The alt right are honestly the most special snowflakes of them all.
"There are plenty others that do" yeah good luck with that one. I hate how after years of white males being the main demographic for these companies, when they finally realise "hey maybe there's others that enjoy our game" there's guys throwing temper tantrums about it more players = people to play with and more potential friends. But I guess the type of people complaining probably wouldn't want a female friend or a black friend or a trans friend.
I'm a huge gamer as in video games but I play magic on the side and what's happening now has been happening in video games for years. it's sad to see people complain about inclusiveness I turned to video games because I was picked on in real life and had no friends but I didn't feel that way when I was playing video games, it felt like I'd found my home I was safe the people I met because I liked games didn't care what I looked like, how I spoke etc I met my best friends because of gaming. I hate to think that these man children doing this is turning people away from a potential "home" or refuge especially for vulnerable people or people under attack for how they live their lives. Magic should be for everyone it's a community not just a game.Sorry for the wall of text.
Oh no gusy, the Ess Jay Dubyas have taken over Wizards of the Coast, and they are forcing PoC on us! It's genocide I tell ya!
.../s, if that's necessary.
The worst part is, these kids probably think of Innistrad as the "Good old days". I wonder if they even know about Mirage.
You can report them on apps like Yelp who will review the case and decide if it should go under their "not recommended" section and be hidden. Those reviews will also not count toward the score.
As a woman I am very pleasantly surprised by how supportive all of the comments on this are of women and POC. Good for all y'all
I don't understand. First they're anti PoC for cultural appropriation, now they're anti white for... What exactly?
People get really upset over card games...
But remember, it's Wizards who doesn't care about your LGS and whether they succeed or fail.
I'm out of the loop.
What's the policy exactly?
I’m trans and I love playing at my LGS. Great group of people. I’m not very good at the game, but I always have fun and people are nice.
My LGS must be part of the SJW conspiracy! /s
I feel like not tolerating intolerance is actually a pretty decent PR move. Some videos I've watched posit the idea that you can have your cake and eat it too. That you can try to appeal to both diversity as well as the more vitriol, narrow demographic of angry white men. But if there is no public punishment of such behavior then you allow it to continue, because they are being rewarded for it through non opposition. A lot of white men are decent human beings that would either not mind or be welcoming to a more diverse cast of players. If the vocal, racist/sexist few who have a problem with that leave, then that makes for a better overall gaming community that will attract a lot more people than those that leave. You'll still have white dudes playing Magic. You'll always have that. But you'll be left with much nicer ones. I'd personally love it if there were more women who played Magic at my local gaming store so my wife would feel more comfortable there.
I know I'm a little late to the party but I work at a LGS and my responsibilities are primarily to run FNM and coordinate magic product. With that being said people like the ones in OP's pic do exist and I interact with them on a day to day basis.
Not trying to cut them slack but many of them lack the ability to think beyond themselves and see that their actions have consequences. I have another employee who does most of the work for comics and action figures who refuses to play Magic because even though we're a college town the community can be quite toxic.
Just Friday I had a patron that stops by all the time break into a rant over how [[Spike, Tournament Grinder]] was "not representative of the competitive Magic community" and "only done to be politically correct".
It feels like an overwhelming tide when even employees engage in talk like this and throw out pretty mean comments like "that's gay" or "kill yourself" especially "haha raped" that will turn people away and lose us business. It always seems like they can't grasp the consequences of their actions and they're a force actively driving people away.
It's honestly a situation I don't know how to approach and this whole Spike and harassment incidents recently feels like it has drawn a line in the sand where people realize they're being assholes and stop or doubling down on bullying others.
I must say that such policies are really quite ineffective, as the vast majority of Magic players are white males.
He brags about his support base but can hardly get 10k of his 140+k "supporters" to sign his crappy petition. Hes on a downhill and losing traction. We'll see what his "big reveal" today is going to be with his failed petition filled with hateful, blindly ignorant, bigots' signatures.
This is why I have a real problem with people (like the mods of this reddit) not wanting to take sides and politicize the issue.
It's literally black and white us vrs them all out social war. The people who do this shit are doing their damnest to normalize racism, bigotry, and white supremacy. They have at least in part succeeded a little and the more people say they should be ignored the more they gain ground.
They must be denounced and shamed at every turn. It's alright to marginalize this filth. It's okay to takes sides against intolerance and evil. They have made unbiased unequal treatment. Trying to abstain from the current American social climate is simply complacency.
Good news! These troglodytes are letting each other know not to mix with polite society!
This kind of "protest" never lasts long. They'll get bored and try something else.
Negative impact approaching nil.
I'm a white male and I am not at all effected by these policies. Must not be functioning correctly.
Looking at the positive, at least the troll comes out into the light where they can be addressed. I would tell that person that I do not want their business.
Also, if anyone I knew felt this way I would disassociate from them and tell everyone else they might know about their views. Bye, it was (not) nice knowing you.
Are other table governing table top bodies that are aware of Jeremy and his actions? Should we be reaching out to those organizations so he is at least on their radar. I know he is looking into branching out to other games in addition to doing all he can to tear WOTC and magic down.
So by people you mean 2? Are there more examples than this one store?
When you've had your ass kissed for 20 years, not having it kissed will be mistaken as oppression.
What petty monsters, doing the exact sorta thing they accuse strawman "SJWs" of doing.
Is there a specific post from wizards they're referencing? I don't follow much of this kind of news.
Maybe I'm missing something, but was there some new development with WotC recently to create this new tempest in a teapot?
What is this even with reference to?
What exactly did WOTC do to offend these people?
Out of the Loop here, can someone point me to the policies and give me a bit of backstory? I can't seem to put together a story from these comments.
As a white male, its truly amazing to me how many white males confuse anti-shithead with anti-white male.... Stop being a shithead and companies will stop being anti-you.
So, does anyone else agree that a review that basically reads, "this store is anti-neonazi," wouldn't be a deterrent?
Lol these alt-right mtg players are literally removing themselves from my favorite LGSs, so I don’t have to worry about them!
The "men" who watch channels hosted by anthropomorphic animals with british accents ranting about feminism really are a silly bunch, aren't they?
Right wingers are the real triggered snowflakes. Lol
Gawd, exactly how childish is this crowd? The sooner they leave Magic, the better.
Since when is wotc anti white and anti male? That's probably three quarters of their customer base.
Let me guess, a person of color planeswalker has become a more prominent hero than Jace and these folks think it's their "war on christmas?"
Or is it because wotc used feminine pronouns for non specified players and characters in the third edition d&d players handbook and they just now noticed?
Pass this along to WotC. I imagine they'll want to deal with these trolls in an appropriate fashion.
What a bunch of crybabies lmao
What is wrong with people? It’s a card game !?!?
Any chance we can help by buying packs at these stores specifically?
pretty unfortunate for wotc that this stuff is going on close to arena's release
what would make this guy think that WOTC is anti-white and anti-male? (not a rhetorical question, actually looking for an answer)
Found Jeremy's burner account.
Jeremy is my name too feels Jeremy man
First they falseflagged videos on YT, then these guys take actions on wotc website... It's getting more serious, wizards must to do something.
This is a statement from a single person lol... don't loosely use 'people' unless you have evidence of multiple people leaving bad reviews of LGSs.
What does wotc mean?
The only reason it feels shitty to be a white male is because we have to be lumped in with dipshits like this.
