It definitely was a barrier for me. I knew I was gay since I was 12 but immediately denied it and told myself it was "wrong" and shouldn't think of such things. I didn't start accepting myself until around 16 and it was a very slow and painful process that didn't end until I was a college freshman. I'm 25 now and live myself for who I am and refuse to let anyone tell me otherwise.
Being Mexican and raised Roman Catholic made it a difficult process for me especially since I had participated in a religious youth group regularly from ages 9-17. They were not kind when it came to the subject of homosexuality. They never brought up gender identity and just pretend everyone was CIS and that that was the only option in existence.
That's great! Are you still religious?
I know I’m an internet stranger, but I am so, so proud of you!
I can’t even imagine the courage and strength it took to get you where you are today. Congratulations 🎉
I agree. Religion can be a barrier there. You should be true to yourself. And I proud that you are doing just that. 👍
You’re looking great!
I love them ! Your freckles are cute too 😻
Aw I never looked so cute when I had braces. They look good on you!
Haha! I did that with my braces too!
Omg that’s so fun!! Wish I did that when I had braces
You look Beautiful!!
You're so pretty oh my god
The braces are indeed colourful :)
What size are yours plugs !?!😻😭
Sooooo cute 😭😍
Let's go! My sister is an ally too!
Fuck yeah! I’m also a lesbian with a bi (pan actually) sister
Which one does 2D from Gorillaz fit into?
As a bi guy, I can confirm this
Fun fact: Marge Simpson actually counts for every hand
What about the Van Houten family
Don’t forget Chloe Price :)
Here I was about to dye my hair silver-blue tonight after work and I feel so called out.
I've been called out
The picture on the left is from the first time I ever presented this way in public. Super nerve wrecking and scary moment in my life. But it was a great night and was a huge stepping stone to where I am now. 4 months on hormones and am presenting myself on the outside how I truly feel on the inside. And that brings us to a picture of me from yesterday. Definitely a huge difference between the two. Can't believe that's me in either picture!
Apparently the Hillsong church has faced accusations of making their gay members to go to conversion therapy, which they have since disavowed.
But their founder is a literal anti-lgbtqa pastor.
He makes it seem like how they treated him with his divorce is somehow the same thing as them saying “we don’t adhere to the gay lifestyle but gay people can come to our church”
I’m over his ass.
Aw man, I was really hoping Chris Pratt wouldn't turn out to be a piece of shit.
Every day I dislike him more and more. He was better off with his mouth shout, back then he passed for a sweet dorky ally, but this situation is honestly ridiculous. Also, good for Ellen for calling him and his church out.
Man I'm thoroughly disappointed in Chris Pratt. Cmon dude, why? Ellen Page was my first girl crush and made me realize I was bi. I felt bad for CP when him and his ex wife were separated. Now I'm kina indifferent to it
He pays the church a lot of money. Therefore, he supports their stance that queers are subhuman. Equality is providing everyone with the same opportunity which the church does not do as it bars LGBTQA+ individuals from having authority roles at the church.
He can play the whole "I love everyone" card as much as he wants but he financially supports a hateful organization.
Chris Pratt always seemed somehow dorky and conservative at the same time. It made me skeptical about him, especially after the divorce. Yes. He looks attractive but fuck his looks if someone is going to defend bigotry and hate by ignoring the church’s statement. You’re part of the negativity if you openly attend, support and even promote a church that has a long history of being anti-lgbt. People are so hypocritical, like seriously. There’s beyond appearance. It’s an instant turn off for me when someone talks shit or bring hatred. You’ve been cancelled Chris Pratt. I’m not religious myself but I hope he realises one day that this is not okay, not only him but to everyone else who’s attending a homophobic church.
Damn. Why do all the good actors have to go like this.
I'm seeing a lot of people who don't understand the problem with what Chris Pratt has done especially on sites like FB... And I think we really need to call everyone out on their BS whenever we can!
Welp, that’s it then. Chris Pratt is officially cancelled.
She's right to question it. As an ex-Christian and devout believer, I get the belief that you supposedly aren't hurting anyone because you are selectively ignorant and highly encased or protected (i.e. brainwashed) into thinking and believing a bunch of bullshit. I just wish Christians and religious people could understand what it is that's being questioned with regard to their faith.
The goal isn't even to get them to stop believing in a god/God/gods ffs. It's the very obvious impact their faith as a body and congregation has as a whole on society, individuals, legislation and governance, the fucking planet and all the rest. Non-religous people do logically inconsistent and intellectually dishonest things too, but generally the ability to grow and empathize is a lot less difficult for a moderately spiritual or a-spiritual person, at least, in my opinion.
I guess I just resent all humanity (which in turn feeds inward when applied incorectly) in those times where they just don't. Fucking. Listen, empathize, sympathize, and make adjustments as necessary. This isn't the worshiping of "facts" like some, but rather, a sincere approach to accept the validity of beliefs and opinions, which are also based in some quasi-fact as well. What fucks up opinions and belief, is the notion that they're an emotional conclusion that generally require context, interpretation, and an unraveling of the bias that filled in for the rest of the facts in the first place. It's like how people worship facts, but get caught up in immutability, rather than the process of critical thinking itself. This is why philosophy and principles are more important than the morality and ethics they yield. The question is almost always more important than the answer, in my assessment of it.
I used to be upset he and Anna Farris fell apart. Now I couldn’t be happier for her.
Well, one of my previous favorite celebs is now dead to me.
Enjoy living in the pit alone Chris
Remember that time he pulled out his dick on the Parks and Rec set as a joke?I didn't realize Seth Meyers joked around with him about it as well.
Just lost all respect for Pratt.
god dammit. i loved that guy.
Can he please die in Jurassic World 3?
Pratt did specifically say: “I am a man who believes that everyone is entitled to love who they want free from the judgment of their fellow man." He wasn’t vague about his own support for us. I’m OK with this response (even though I agree with most of the comments here that it would be ideal if he would more actively and continually challenge his church on this). Every parishioner at a church doesn’t necessarily agree with everything their church or pastor believes. And having parishioners who don’t agree with their church on LGBT condemnation can eventually change the church from the inside.
Unfortunately the general interpretation in the Bible is a negative one, we must come to the conclusion that no matter what we will never be accepted.. it’s unfortunate but thats who he chooses to be and what he believes..
I've never liked Chris Pratt. To me he is always been over hyped and I've getting "asshole vibes" from him.
It's sad that he turned to be asshole, but at the same time I'm happy that I hated him already.
Damn. How can Chris be so bigoted and support the hateful things his church constantly screams? Isn't the cast members that he has worked with tv and movies highly diverse and includes lgbt? Did he think they didn't deserve to excist exist while he pretended to care and smiled at them?
I wish Chris wasn't lost to that hateful indoctrination but him doubling down is absolutely deplorable.
Rhea pretty much nailed his thought process.
While I'm not defending Chris Pratts refusal to acknowledge the shitty nature of his church I will have to make an effort to defend Chris Pratt in a generalized manner
Growing as a gay in the DEEP south (north Florida for any of you from the area would know that it is essentially Alabama and Mississippi) I can tell you that these modern mega churches are insidously and deceptively cruel in their anti-LGBT methods.
These mega churches will promote a "soft Christianity" on people that's tragically close to the actual message of Jesus Christ which is love and acceptance of all people then behind closed doors will find hateful bigotry.
Spirituality is important to pretty much everyone and this church abuses that. I think we should give Pratt time to objectively weigh the truth he has been presented with because it's a little unfair to call someone anti-LGBT when they really haven't been
1) actively supporting anti-LGBT movements2) possibly unaware of the anti-LGBT movements behind closed doors*
If Pratt chooses to ignore this than he is willfully supporting hatred but we should at least give him the time to deal with it before we attack him sense a very personal and deeply spiritual part of his life has been revealed.
You can go ahead and downvote me and reply to this comment with criticism about my “insensitivity” or whatever, but this predicament is a waste of time. This situation will only last a moment before it’s lost in the flood of other Facebook or tweet arguments.
Ellen Page received praise as an advocate not for petty situations and calling people out, but for sharing her story and taking action. Again, not calling people out action, but to become vocal. She made “Gaycation” to share stories that never really get an opportunity to be heard. She listens to both sides. She shows the prejudices and injustices to the world what is going on and get this — no calling out. That is something that will last for more than a moment. I’m guessing she hopes we strive to do the same.
Hmm, I recently saw messages in which he seemed very adamant about accepting everybody for who they are. He stated he isn't against the LGBT community and he wants to see less hate in the world.
I'm not sure if I believe messages like this, which only seem to have the goal to make him look as bad as possible. Yes he's religious, but that doesn't automatically mean he is bigotted.
Even if his church is against LGBT people, it doesn't mean he is. He is not his church.
A good friend of mine is gay, and goes to an anti-LGBT church. He is proud of his identity and of his church.
The whole thread under her tweet is depressing. Everyone either was a hypocrite and said something along the lines of “you dont have to judge someone elses beliefs” (they’re judging hers) or calling lgbtq ngshteh or something
congrats! Do you feel any significant change on hrt so far or it takes more time?
