I love this place. I have waited an hour and half or two multiple times BEFORE they open. Just to be first. Each time is exactly like my first time. Utterly mind blown. It’s unbelievable. I’m literally shaking my head in disbelief as I take each bite from these sandwiches because I don’t understand why each bite is just as good and then better than the last. Guys, I seriously can’t express myself enough to you how damn good this freaking chicken is.

I’ve had dreams about this chicken.

Will always love Howlin Rays. The wait time kills it sometimes but the crew and their service is outstanding.

  • FeralAppetence
    3 points Mar 25,2019, 5:42pm

The only thing that's got that beat (in my opinion) is Otaku Ramen's hot chicken buns. It's the Japanese take on it. Steamed bao buns, their own spice blend for the chicken, and slaw made with kewpie mayo.

I go there way too often...

I waited in line for almost four hours to eat at this place and I was in no way disappointed when we finally got to the register. We got super lucky and got a seat at the counter and the guys were so much fun to talk to while we ate, they really made the experience a 10/10. The food was fantastic and so hot it hurt for the rest of the day.

  • CommentingsForLosers
    1 points Mar 25,2019, 7:17pm

You've really gotta be lucky with the timing but sitting at the counter at Ray's is one of the best eating experiences in LA. Their staff is incredible and happy to throw all kinds of free stuff at you. Hard to recommend it to people visiting because of how much time the line takes but this sucker is the best sandwich in the city, sorry Bay Cities.

In Columbus, Ohio, there’s a place called Hot Chicken Takeover that makes amazing chicken. Owner hired ex-cons and has a great business model. It may not be “Nashville hot chicken,” but it’s damn good - crispy, spicy.

  • tpotts16
    1 points Mar 25,2019, 7:58pm

You got three hands for your two sandwiches, next level

  • bebimbopandreggae
    1 points Mar 25,2019, 8:00pm

This sandwich looks good, but it is about to fall apart. In my view, if the bread of the sandwich cannot contain and control the fillings of the sandwich, it is an inferior sandwich. A sandwich is meant to be eaten with the hands, and if the bread falls apart or the toppings fall out of the sides, the sandwich can no longer be properly eaten with the hands. No matter how delicious the ingredients are, they are useless if they cannot be contained by the bread. Gastro pubs and restaurants across the globe need to take heed and create sandwiches that are hand friendly.

Lol, I was so confused. I live in Nashville and couldn't figure out where the hell Howlin' Ray's is.

If you come to Nashville, get your hot chicken from places like this: http://hot-chicken.com/images/97.jpg

Check out Crawford’s. 2616 Beverly Boulevard. Hot chicken and a side is $10 , though it’s not a sandwich. Also there is $2 draught Budweiser. The wait is only the time it takes to cook. It gets a little bit busy so it’s best to go when they open (5PM) or you might need to eat standing up.

It’s a yellow building that says “Ice Cold Beer”. Nothing say Crawford’s outside.

How long was the wait? I'm guessing 2 1/2 hours?

I'm also partial to Gus's (Memphis style fried chicken), Crenshaw and Pico.

Howlin Rays is amazing. Make sure to try Dave's Hot Chicken on Western. Equally as good with less of a line.

  • Future_Khai

  • tpotts16

When I visited Nashville in June 2016, everybody told me to go to Hattie Bs.

I enjoyed it. Though it did blow my mind that even before the restaurant opened the line was 40 minutes long!
