Odd, considering password managers like 1Password have moved away from auto-submitting logins (https://blog.1password.com/1password-7.2-for-mac-welcome-to-the-dark-side/ see about half way down.)

I’ve noticed this with Face ID as well. Not sure if it was always a thing, but some websites no longer require me to press sign in.

It’s so annoying. It’s been this way for a while in WebKit nightly and it will log you in before you get the chance of pressing any of the available “stay logged in” checkboxes

It's a small detail, but it's one that I appreciate. I'm assuming this is new with the 10.14.4 beta... because I don't recall Safari ever acting this way.

Edit: Some of you are concerned about being able to review information. As far as I can tell, it only does this for username/password entries. Other forms that ask for name, address, etc do NOT auto-submit.

Auto fill for passwords and credit cards is surprisingly wonky. Apple should work on reliability. The UI even flickers and is hard to click.

I actually don’t like that. I like to see what username it’s putting in there just to be sure. Also, when I had Dashlane, the auto submit thing didn’t always work which I why I didn’t like it.

There’s also an option to require Touch ID before it submits the form. I’d guess that that’s going to be the default option going forward on new devices.

  • Skyy8

This actually isn't one less click though... Other already have the fields filled in, so you just have to click Submit (one click). Apple requires you to select the username before it submits, which is still one click.

There is a simple reason why Apple is forcing users to use the ears instead of having them permanently black.

    1. if the upper ears are perma black, the apps will look like cards on a display rather than apps themselves and it is something apple does not want.

    2. If Apple gives users options to black it out fully to developer, half the apps will look like cards, half will be using ears. there will be no consistently and Apple design for apps would be holistically inconsistent

why would you want that on the side with it rotated? the hand holding it would most likely cover the animation

Unfortunately, the HIG for iPhone X explicitly forbids showing any UI elements that highlight/acknowledge the black bar's existence.

I’m actually curious how native apps like Safari handle this. This type of design is exactly like the detail-oriented Easter egg Apple is known for.

I imagine the icons like battery and service will just always be there unless you're watching a video, or playing a game, etc.

Those screen protrusions should be permanently black, displaying time, phone/wifi signal, and battery info in white letters - not part of the screen with background and all.

The iPhone x looks like something that apple enthusiasts would relentlessly make fun of if it weren't an apple product. Even the essential phone looks so much more thought out and clean from a design perspective

I think this is a royally botched effort. They take away the home button to finally show off full screen front.

    How?

The space either side of the bar should be for the status bar only, no ability to disable, then apps will work fine

“One so immersive the device itself disappears into the experience.”

I’m writing this comment on an iPhone 7 and I applaud Apple’s step forward in design, but, let’s not kid ourselves, the X’s description above is more accurate towards the Galaxy S8.

Opening a post in Narwhal on iPhone prompts Safari Handoff on iPad

Apple

iirc narwhal uses the Safari API or something to that nature

  • BrownKnight62
    29 points Sep 01,2017, 11:13am

I have to say, I personally love this feature from narwhal. When you open the handoff app (I use it on my MacBook), it'll open the reddit post you were looking at and makes it really easy to put your reddit post on the big screen, or look at links more optimised for larger screens or keyboards etc. I wish more apps which have website counterparts did this.

Yes it works on the computer too. Pretty neat. No need to "share > *wait for sheet > * wait for computer to show up > airdrop" even though that workflow is great too

And this is why your battery options display Safari using a lot of battery instead of Narwhall.
