They can brag about "toxic gamers" as much as they want.

After all, I spend no money on keeping them alive.

That's the thing I don't get. Gamers buy games. If you make a shitty game, people don't buy it. If you make a habit of tarnishing your brand by releasing shitty games (or comics, or movies, etc.), eventually people stop patronizing your business. I don't want to say "the customer is always right," but the customer is the only one giving you money. You can appeal to different clientele, but what we've been seeing for several years is this suicidal business ethos where the people least likely to spend money on your products is now dictating the design process.

Someone do a version for movies now. You alt-right trolls who hates CM because females, but in reality hate it because it was a subpar movie, the marketing around it sucked, and the lead actress was a giant racist cunt when talking about potential customers.

    Spot on.

Just goes to show that the people selling games have never worked a real job in their lives. Game developers are SPOILED compared to restaurants and retail stores, if I was ever caught in public badmouthing my customers the way devs and journos do, I would have been FIRED ON THE SPOT.

In the hobbyist small electronics industry you say "This isn't very good" and then the waiter falls over revealing he was a cardboard cutout the whole time. Then you stand up to find yourself in a vacant lot with a table.

My understanding of the 12 rules is they are much, much closer to a guide to de-radicalization than anything else. I've never read anything more than a summary of them, but holy shit, how can anyone who has even read them believe for a moment that 'Pet a cat when you encounter on on the street' is a path to shooting up a church?

The mass murderer responsible for this was, in part, trying to provoke a massive overreaction from the NZ authorities. NZ authorities have responded magnificently. How far down the slippery slope is NZ going to take this as they crack down on "alt right" speech?

I mean look at how they are reacting to the video of the crime. I don't want to watch it. I would prefer people not watch it. But I wouldn't start blocking whole swathes of the Internet and threatening massive prison sentences to stop people from watching it.

Ah, Ana Valens, have you fallen so far? The person who had, as SpaceDoctorPhd (which she still goes by on Twitter) analyzed in-depth the abusive behavior of Zoe Quinn and was friendly with prominent GamerGate supporters like Nicole Sund/CultOfVivian?

Ana has truly completed the transformation into a garbage journalist willing to do anything for money. I wonder how people like Nicole feel now that Ana's transformed into a hideous, libelous blogger who must have been salivating at a chance to link still-warm dead bodies to GamerGate, regardless of whether it makes any sense?

I suppose it's easy to throw away morals, principles, even past friendships when clickbait money is dangled in one's face. Or perhaps Ana's enjoying the knowledge that she can puke up whatever garbage she likes and the readership will hang on her every word.

Why is everyone so quick to politicize it? It's barely been a day and everyone wants to point fingers at everyone else.

Trying to politicize it just leads to everyone fighting over who is in the wrong, and makes everyone look awful by pointing fingers during a tragedy.

  • CautiousAddiction
    44 points Mar 15,2019, 11:53pm

There are multiple mass shootings committed by black Americans every day in America. What is at the root of that? What should be banned because of it?

Funny how the media never asks those questions of a much more pressing situation when it comes to mass shootings. Funny how the media never even mentions those mass shootings. It's almost as if the media has an agenda.

Look, the shooter or shooters involved are cuckoo bananas. You have to be to shoot up any group of people completely unprompted and write a manifesto about why.

You could blame Donald Trump, Gamergate, Pewdiepie or the imaginary pink bunnies on the moon. At some point, you have to put the outrage hammer down and remember that most people aren't shooting up mosques, schools or whatever.

This whole "normalizing" thing people keep on talking about?

Well, people are who they are. If they were assholes before Donald Trump, they were probably doing asshole things before Trump was elected president. If Hillary Clinton were president, chances are this same manifesto would have been released saying that we need a rise in white supremacy because Clinton is leading the world in flooding the homeland with dirty Muslims or other ridiculous claims.

Plain and simple: when you have someone that's cuckoo bananas on your hands, you don't start by cherry-picking the things you agree with from what they're saying. Everything they say should be equally suspect and equally dismissible.

Remember everyone, wanting journalists to disclose conflict-of-interest relationships and sponsorships, wanting freedom of speech on public platforms, wanting an unbiased and nonpartisan reporting of the facts, wanting corporations to not meddle with and gaslight public perception, wanting equal treatment for all people before the law, wanting all people to have access to and to play the games they want without political intervention breaking the fourth wall and endlessly tainting and interfering with immersion, wanting lying social parasites, who cry wolf over make-believe problems and who wallow in Twitter's collective outrage sympathy, to be ignored and held in contempt and dismay, THAT'S JUST OEN BIG DOG WHISTLE FOR MURDER FUCKING MUSLIMS, RIGHT? When he explicitly stated his motive for his terrorism, and "journalists" just gloss over or ignore that and press on with narrative building and pointing blame, doing exactly what he wanted, I don't know how much I have it in me not to clap back and fulfill that monster's wishes.

Takes a look at the screenshot

SPEZ: Beast, dot, what's the difference.

Now I'm curious as to what political statement VG24/7 thinks that marketing campaign holds.

I think it's just a poster of a 'warrior' looking at the remnants of DC after an apocalyptic disaster, but if I'd have to overanalyze it I would say it was a wamyn looking down on the overthrown capitalist imperialistic patriarchy. This is clearly feminist propaganda, so what are VG24/7 whining about?

Part of the reason I'm avoiding The Division 2 - other than just not being terribly impressed with the beta and disagreeing with several design changes since the original - is that it feels like it's really straddling the politicization line. Advertising campaigns like "Take Back The Capitol" at a time when the left is waging an overt campaign to impeach and remove the current US President make me feel like this Swedish development studio is being not-so-secretive with their political leanings.

  • blobbybag
    1 points Mar 07,2019, 6:46pm

People need to learn to tell the difference between political and partisan. It's apolitical only in so far as it's not commenting on the politics of the day, it's not picking a side in today's squabbles.

The game is about rebuilding the US after it collapses, that's its politics.

The Division 2 is weird because the marketing is trying to keep things apolitical while the devs themselves are publicly active terrorists.https://www.reddit.com/r/KotakuInAction/comments/a5lr0a/twitter_bullshit_ubisoft_massive_producer_who/

Normally its the other way around, where the marketing goes overboard with pushing feminist terrorist propaganda while the terrorists in the dev team prefer to lay low (see the whole Battlefield V thing).

  • EveryOtherDaySensei
    16 points Mar 07,2019, 9:19am

Apparently, VG247 has their knickers in a bunch over this Tweet from The Division 2 about Mexico sending troops to the border and building a wall to keep Americans fleeing the plague.

Bad form on Ubisoft's part but VG247 is just going for hate clicks.

YouTube channel Midnight's Edge livestream discussing Captain Marvel has been taken down midstream by copyright claim

  • RoryTate
    91 points Mar 06,2019, 1:12pm

Yeah, I had just jumped in to watch this stream a few minutes earlier, when suddenly everything stopped. When I reloaded and saw that company's name -- Estonian Organization for Copyright Claim -- it really seems like some obvious troll, except for the fact that YouTube itself must be generating that name somewhow, so it's legitimate enough for them I guess.

There were no images, music, or anything at all that I could see (though I didn't see the whole stream) that should have been caught by any automated process, so this seems to be deliberate in some way. Just a couple of people talking with a static ME image, that's all. This really has the feel of some third party troublemaker.

The channel generally does good reviews and commentary on videos and activities surrounding it. It's a shame they get taken down.

There is no way this is not going to be terrible, and it's nothing to do with the director. Even at its peak the post TNG Star Trek shows just only barely hovered above mediocrity, occasionally dipping below and rarely rising too high above it. The fact that it's so easy to clone Star Trek in other universes such as Stargate, The Orville and so on just shows how formulaic Star Trek got. It was the space equivalent of procedural cop shows. Not terrible, not good, but watchable if they stick to the formula.

It might have once been NYPD Blue but then it turned into CSI. It never became the Wire.
