I am a little disoriented by the perspective. Not sure if that's what you were going for by flipping the image, but it makes it difficult to look at for a while because I realize the camera/photo was flipped upside down. I would actually prefer it rotated 180° for that reason. However, I think it's up to you whether you want that effect and I know not everybody may have the same reaction. I would also do some post-processing to fix the colors a bit and remove the vignetting.

Edit: Here's a quick idea of what I would do. This is relatively quick so the white balance and framing still isn't quite right, but you get the idea. You could also go into PS and remove the debris on the ground, as I think it detracts from the beauty.

Edit 2: Removed most of the debris with Content-Aware Fill. There's definite evidence of Photoshop if it's blown up though, especially for the large piece of debris in the middle, but I think it works fine at monitor resolution or if you didn't know the debris was there in the first place.

  • jimbojonesFA - 3 points - 3 years ago

My brain was so fucking confused for a second about which way you took this and why your reflection is not in it...

Then I realized you must have just flipped it lol. Awesome shot though looks like it could be the product of a really good photoshop. (thats a compliment btw, not saying you used PS)

My only critique would be to maybe darken that bottom corner where the light is glaring pretty brightly, maybe with a simple brush in lightroom or a gradient filter (I prefer the gradient filter just because it doesn't leave a noticeable line and thus doesn't make your shot look butchered)

  • telecommatt - 3 points - 3 years ago

This has got to be one of the coolest shots i've seen. Actually I like the way it was flipped...

  • misslariss - 2 points - 3 years ago

I personally like the fact that you flipped it alot. Great shot :)

  • Collaterlie_Sisters - 1 points - 3 years ago

Fucking religious monument. I wonder how many peasants died making this? Not to mention all of the scientists who died in the Catholic church's Dark Ages in perpetuating their false myth - if you don't believe me, look up what they did to Galileo. This and all other fucking churches should be burned to the ground (or better yet, converted into a scientific laboratory, how's that for irony??).

  • obsa - 58 points - 3 years ago

So did you actually go through the effort of timing the jump, or did you put in the silhouette in post? If it's the former, mad props for the dedication. If it's the latter, you forgot to remove the tape on the glasses. ;)

  • stayzuplate - 21 points - 3 years ago

Great concept but you could have a stronger composition. The background and cloudy sky make this less effective than it would be with some more brilliant colors (sorry if your local weather doesn't cooperate this time of year). Plus the concrete is too bright for how much of the shot it is taking up. Glasses are hanging at a bit of an awkward angle and might feel more natural if they were closer to horizontal. Would love to hear if you captured the reflection live or used photoshop to compose.

  • Akilou - 24 points - 3 years ago

    This is awesome.

You might want to photoshop out the tape holding the glasses to the can.

  • dizzi800 - 2 points - 3 years ago

  • onFilm - 3 points - 4 years ago

  • cbs_ - 1 points - 4 years ago

I live pretty near, and have thought about doing this shot, but I thought that there would be crowds on the bridge too, making it impossible to set a tripod up.

  • RidleyScotch - 1 points - 4 years ago

Now just to make sure i'm understanding, the reason the guards are in focus is because they we're standing still during the exposure where as the people moving are blurred b/c of their motion during the exposure, correct?

Lovely shot. What did you do to the lighting / what was the weather like there? The duck is wonderfully sharp and overall the image is quite dark - but it looks like it's in sunlight? Hope that makes sense...

I grew up in south India and we had a huuge house with lots of space around: we had like 15 coconut trees alone. And in our city in the 90s they used to bring elephants around every once in a while; people generally hear the bell sound (from its neck) and come out, pay some respect in terms of few rupees which they put in it's trunk, which it will give to it's mahout and then "bless" them by touching their head with the trunk.

When this elephant comes to our house, we used to invite it in, break a few coconut branches (leaves?) and let it have it and give a couple hundred rupees (we weren't rich but were decently off). Good times.

Once it took a dump though. And then it peed. Which "dissolved" the quintal of dung it just dropped and filled our parking lot. The smell didn't go off for weeks.

Did you apply a tilt-shift filter to this, or were parts of the window just kinda fogged? If the former, it's really unnecessary and applied incorrectly.

I swear she's usually a very sweet girl. I was just happened to be there with my camera shooting the kids when mom told her "No more chocolate". She then turned to me to ask for a second opinion (which I gave her while shooting). I didn't really set out to take a picture of my daughter with an angry face. She got over it pretty quick though when I let her start shooting.
