Looks like the 405 in LA.
Right, just to clear some misconceptions, and to put the mind to those who are screaming "fake".
This is, or rather, was in Châtillon, Belgium. Most of those cars were abandoned by service men. Not only from during the war, but also after the war. The costs to ship them back were to great, and seeing this was a post-war Europe, money wasn't that abundant.
The graveyard has since been cleaned for at least two to three years.
Pretty sure a lot of these cars are more recent than 1945. Anyone have a source for this image?
In this link it states that Chatillon was also used as a post-war base and some cars were left by soldiers on tours at later dates, which would explain some of the later model cars.
No one here is questioning that some of those cars are definitely not 1940's? I'm not an expert on cars, and I'm 18 years old. But those cars look like they are from the 50's to me.
I spy Will Smith.
Another gallery of the Chatillon, Belgium "car graveyard", though many of these cars are indeed mid-to-late 1950's vintage...
Nope. Those cars are from the 50's at least.
This looks Alot more recent than WW2, this looks like cars left by the fleeing citizens of Chernobyl, when the reactor blew
Is there a story behind this?
I find it curious that none of them have any glass in them.
This looks like an amazing place to play hide and seek!
Blitzkrieg, I'm in the Ardennes!
Story,Left in a clearing in the Forrest as they could not afford to ship them back home to the US
That looks awesome! Where exactly is this in the Ardennes? My familiy has a holiday house there, maybe it's in the neighborhood :)
I love history.
Add: leave it to someone to downvote a positive sentiment, way to kill my enthusiams. I hate downvoters.
Better or worse than just dumping them all in the sea?
Nature will always take over...
This traffic is ridiculous!
Looks like a miyuzaki film
haha i live on ardennes ave, i'm guessing named after this?
Wouldn't it be cool if they restored all of these on a car restoration show with profits to veterans charities?
So, does anyone know what this would do to the local ecosystem? Assuming the vehicles fuel evaporated (is that what would happen?) and only metal parts were left... What happens to the soil?
Every time in think iv seen everything that's a thing, I see something else I didn't know was a thing.
"Blitzkrieg! I'm in the Ardennes! You can't touch me in the Ardennes!"
Nature always wins
as my dad would say, "Nothing those cars need but a new radiator cap, and a new car to go under it".
can somebody please tell me where this is exactly because i live in Belgium and now i want to visit this =)
A T-Rex would really a nice touch to this picture.
If you park like this than fuck you.
Great location for a zombie/post apocalyptic movie
Cool, where is that exactly in the Ardennes ? I would love to visit it =).
Where is this exactly, do you know?
this picture is amazing...did you take it?
This is my favorite Crysis 3 level.
The Last of Us
Makes me so, so sad
To me, this is sad. Too bad these car's couldn't have been given away or something....
U.S. servicemen should really consider leaving the keys in their abandoned cars. What a waste.
No Walking Dead references yet? First one...okay then. "Walking Dead, The Later Years"
wow. thank you for sharing this. honestly it made me cry. because i thought about the situations they where in and maybe the reasons they had to leave them. i dunno thought i would share for once what i was thinking to Reddit.
EDIT: i didn't read the comments before posting this
America, shows up to WWII late, commits some genocide and the biggest acts of terrorism in the history of humanity, call themselves the winner when all that were was a bit player and leaves behind garbage and waste.
Americans, do you know why the world hates you?
