This game totally deserved a sequel. It was so much fun. I bought this game used on a class trip one year back when I had the PS3 that was enabled with backwards compatibility. Come home to only have my PS3 meltdown my first time trying to play it. Have a PS2 still, so...ya'know, woohoo.
Upvote a billion times! Loved this game! Unlocked all the characters.
Just remembered the level (Tokyo I believe?) where you attack the UFO and it shoots its laser at the sea, causing a massive tsunami! So epic!
And now just imagine the sequel to this on the next gen consoles...
Anybody else take hours trying to take down all of the buildings on the map?
My. Username. Is. Relevant!! Hooray!!!
Edit: I absolutely loved this game. I remember playing the story mode over and over again to get enough credits to unlock everything, which I did. Everything except that Sweet Tooth skin, never was much of a twisted metal fan. Most of the time I didn't have people to play with, so my sister was the next best option, even though she wasn't all that good, we had fun regardless.

Used to play this for hours with my sister, good times
Ultra V was my MAN!
That game was THE SHIT. I remember staying up all night with some friends playing it on numerous occasions. It had a fantastic multiplayer as well.
Kinecticlops was THE shit, loved the lightning blast special. However, I remember this game had radio towers/spears that impaled the target and stunned them, until they pulled it out, which was bullshit.
If you have a PS3, it is downloadable from the Playstation Network. I am about to do that now. Ahaha
I loved being the dragons they were the shit
used to remember playing the shit out of this game w/ my brother. we used to claim territories and play politics if we started attacking each other which eventually led to the the cities destruction very quickly.
or we'd play catch with spears and boulders.
War of the Monsters got the scale right for the "godzilla" thing that was going on in the early 2000's. You were not so tall that you could just step on and smash all the buildings, instead you actually had to climb around them like obstacles and use the rubble for weapons. Played this game to death with my brothers. Still have it sitting next to me in my classic games rack.
I used to love King of the Monsters on Sega Genesis.
This game was awesome. I remember when I unlocked The Sweet Tooth skin for the rock guy. You had to have a Twisted Metal Black save on your memory card =D. Isomniac made this game too.
It's a shame Downhill Domination didn't get as much exposure. It was a really fun game. Unlocking Kinecticlops as a rider was a really neat treat as well.
Two things I distinctly remember from this game. The first was throwing sharp towers and impaling my friends. The second was getting pissed off at the story line during the ant part where you had to block the little holes with rocks.
this game was phenomenal, I still remember all the short and long range specials
I freaking loved this game. The Tsunami level was excellent. Or maybe i preferred the one where if you destroyed a certain building a giant crevass opened in the middle of the city. So much brutality
because nobody recognised it x.x it was such a cool game
It's on PSN now. Totally get it.
played this with my little bro all the time when we were younger
Me and my friends would try and destroy everything possible.
Damn, i had forgot about this game. Found this through a demo that came with a magazine, and instantly brought it after trying it out.
I remember playing 1v1 with a friend on the earthquake map and we would just cooperate to destoy the city in order to trigger the earthquake. Good times!
Because it was really underrated.
I just loved punching eachother off of buildings. And throwing eachother off of buildings. And into buildings. Ugh, so simple, so fun.
absolutely loved this game
Oh i loved to catch spears and throw them back.... best beat em up ever
This game WAS my childhood. Gah, good game. This, spyro, and crash bandicoot!
throwing shit at the UFO to make the title wave come! i had that secret tactic against my friend!
I fucking loved this game
i was always that robot guy who shot nukes haha. And I remember me and my buddy played two player and we didnt even fight eachother, we always used to just go around and destroy the cities for fun, or pick up a bat and a girder to play baseball with it. good times
I remember when I was young my parents wouldn't let me have certain games, this being one of them. I'd save up milk money and rush down to the video rental store to rent this game. I'd hide it in my backpack until my parents went to bed, sneak downstairs, and play it. Very good times.
I'm pretty sure they made it a PSN downloadable game a little while ago.
Bought a copy of this at a used game store a month back because it was one of my most played games as a kid. No regrets. Fantastic game.
Dear god, that game was brutally hard sometimes. I remember once when I was rushing to get health, and the bastard swooped down and took it literally a second before I could get there.
This kind of reminds me of Relic's Impossible Creatures. That game was so great I will never understand why they didn't make a sequel!
The hours spent playing this with friends....Loved me some mantis. Also games like these deserve a remake or just a facelift then re release.
My buddies had a projector hooked up in their house and I used to bring this game there. Epic on an 8' screen.
I posted something similar a few months ago OP, got downvoted to hell. It was such a good game. I remember all my friends would be like "this game looks shitty", or like "this games going to suck". They would play it and be completely won over within minutes.
fuck u just brought back so much of my childhood. lved this game. also way back in the day rampage. dam i wana get a gamecube just to play these classics
OMFG I LOVED THIS GAME SO MUCH. I used to play as the old 60's mech robot(robo-47), because his special missile attack was SUPER effective! The epic feel of battling in city's godzilla style was awesome!
I regretted buying this for my friends birthday because I never wanted to leave his house
Because a total of 8 people ever bought it.
I don´t know this game, but it seems like the sequel to the Movie Monster Game, that I always wished for.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jbuxe4MRxEU
So far I've seen no love for the American robot with the nuclear missile in his head. ROBO47 was the best!
This game was so much fun, my brother and I used to battle each other for hours. Thank you for posting this, I could never remember the name of it.
What a great party game... I played this all the time. The gorilla dude was my man.
This game was weird, it was a cool concept but it felt like Twisted Metal Black with monsters instead of cars, but the controlls felt like you were still driving a car, really odd.
Never played this game... how similar was this to King of the Monsters and Rampage?
hell yea i still play this on ps2
Damn thanks for the reminder of this game. I always used to play as the Mantis. Now im gonna try and find this on Amazon.
I never owned the game... However I did have it on a demo disk that broke from overuse.
Because good games don't need a sequel.
my fucking childhood right there
I agree they should have done more with that idea.
Kineticlops was a badass!
Awesome game! I used to love playing as the robot for the heat seeking missile attack. And that platform jumping mini game was awesome, too.
I know, right? Fuck, this was love.
Oh my god, bought this game after playing the demo. I still have the disk too, and you can get it on the PSN store. My friends and I used to just play multiplayer and focus on destroying buildings and killing people. Heh, good times.
My friend and I played this game for hours. We unlocked the bonus games and spent even more time with just the bowling part. I don't really need a sequel but I would love an HD remake with online.
I have this on the PS2 and on the PS3 through PSN, loved this game. So much fun to fight it out in split screen multi-player.
Was there a similar battling monsters game that came out around the same time as this?
I thought we decided these nostalgia-milking posts were bad?
I frequently ask the same question. I LOVED it so much. I used to play King of the Monsters all the time in the arcades / on SNES. When this came out it really filled that void and more so. I was always hoping for a sequel with 4 players / online play.
I'd love a sequel, but they'd probably dumb it down and add some sort of motion controls to make the casual gamers more interested in it.
Trying to remember this one game years ago, you play a kid out on the streets as you control these robots using a PlayStation-like controller in your hands, and you run around and such to get a perspective, or even jump onto the robot itself to fight.
I can never remember that game.
On of the best game i ever played
This game made my friend resent my visits so much because of how hard I beat him.
Great game,I remember it took me & my brother forever to learn there was a ground stomp attack because we bought it used.
I too... loved this game deeply.
i emember playing thatwas sooo much funid always play as the pramantus guyi wonder where the disk is
I remember playing the demo of this game with a friend for. Hours and hours. Yeah that's right, not the full game, the demo.
I remember the first time we got our hands on the full game. We were blown the fuck away by the various monsters and maps.
My favourite one was the one with a volcano.
I had no idea there was a War of the Monsters 1.
I remember playing this with my Grandmother then I was little. It brings back so many memories.
Easily one of the best PS2 games for me.
I played it on the demo disk from the playstation magazine and couldnt get enough of it
Every time this question is asked, I wonder how dumb people are. The answer is always money. Either it didn't make much money back then, or it's projected to not make enough now. Does it suck that sometimes good media doesn't do well commercially? Yes. But stop acting like it's some big unsolved mystery for karma.
Citizen Kabuto too.
One of my favorites as well! So badass to impale a giant robot with a radio tower.
How have I never heard of this?! Is this like the spiritual successor to 'King of the Monsters'?
This game broke my playstation. Once it was played, nothing else would play on it. I had the play station service where you send yours away and get a repaired one in exchange and i must have gone through 4 PS2's before I figured it out. So worth it though, this game was of the hook.
I always played as preytor because you could pussy out of a fight and fly to the other end of the map.
I still play this game from time to time. Great monster choices and the destructible environments were awesome. It had a great secret unlock for Twisted Metal Black players too. I miss Incognito they always made great stuff. :(
My son and I still play it on a regular basis after 10 years!
omg i remember wasting a year of my life on this!!!
Robo-47 for the win!
The same reason there's no Chromehounds 2 :'(
Because everyone in r/gonewild is touching themselves?
Holy crap!!!! I loved this game! my cousin and I played ALL the time!
Why? Because good games don't need sequels.
My friends and I would play "custom" dodgeball.
Get the new york level with the sky scrapers in the center. Then the 50's era robot would camp the middle and use his missile tracking nuclear bomb to try to hit the contestants.
If anyone could knock him off with a gas truck then they got to go to the center and shoot bombs.
The cheesy monster selection song will always haunt my dreams from King of the Monsters.
Stun enemy with antennae. Have a second one close by, the moment your enemy pulls out the antennae, throw the second one at them. They get stunned again and will drop the first antennae. Impale consecutively up to three times, I believe.
Also, game doesn't really need a sequel. A remake would be cool so long as it feels and plays like the original. Of course, it will be in HD, will have new content, and will have online play.
Totally forgot about this game, I'm finding a ps2 stat!
Love this game. Still have my copy even though my ps3 can't play it. Wish they'd release it on PSN in Europe already :D
Still have my original CD
Much needed sequel
it was a 3D version of Rampage!
Make another Incog! PLEASE!
Dude that game was the fucking shit!!!!
Try King of the Monsters on SNES.
There is one...and IT'S IN YOUR BASEMENT.
Me and my sister used to play the jampack addition which was just a demo... But we we played it so much just killing the civilians and it brings back so many memories.
The memories of playing catch with pieces of buildings with my best friend are all coming back. The hardest object was the pole that would impale you... so awesome.
Some of the best destruction in any game. My buddies and I played this for hours.
Oh my fucking god I miss that game so much
Because this planet sucks
Its not on the Aussie store :( endless sadness
Always would've liked a sequel to Blast Corps
Those radio tower antennas were the most dangerous mofos around.
I keep seeing the title of this post and think it's an announcement. Then I get sad. :(
I had this gane when I was kid before my PS2 broke. Easily one the better ganes I've played in my life.
I remember playing that game with my friend. It was fun for a day.
I played it with my friends. It was the single best time evar.
Holy shit I had completely forgotten about this game. Feels good.
My childhood before I met Master Chief:
and then my Brother got and XBOX and HALO: COMBAT EVOLVED and it was Halo from that moment on.
there was never a War of the Monsters 2 because it didn't sell that well, and is a really niche genre.
It was a great game, though, don't get me wrong - there's just no way in hell there will EVER be a sequel.
Because it wasn't very good.
No idea man. No idea.
I was kind of pissed off when I learned I couldn't unlock Agamo's 4th costume without beating twisted metal black. Then I got over it, because I never played as Agamo anyways.
But yeah, if this game ever got a sequel, I'd buy that console soley so I could play this game.
I loved this game way back in the day, it's almost impossible to find it anymore.
They found peace.
I just nostalgia'd all over my keyboard.
Agh... They always have to go and ruin it somehow. Thanks for the update, mucho obliged.
