GPS on my phone get a bit weird sometimes and I've had similar issues. Crazy speeds, jacked up routes, etc... It's the main reason I finally bought an actual GPS unit.

  • arcticblue
    1 points Jan 13,2017, 10:38am

Phones use wifi access points to help assist in quickly determining location. To put it simply, access points names and some unique info is stored in a database and associated lat/long coordinates. This is how you can get a location lock while indoors or even if your device doesn't have an actual GPS chip. Now, when someone moves and brings their access point with them, it can cause some issues for a couple days until the location is updated. Many phones automatically send the access points they see and the location they detected it so this system is self-healing, but it takes a few days. So what happened here is your phone probably thinks it was in the previous location of a new access point in your area. Had this problem when I moved across town and my GPS was bouncing all over the place.

  • papabearxoxo
    2 points Jan 14,2017, 11:19am

This is such a killer bike and the new fork addresses some of the major hang ups I had about buying one. Still, at this point it seems like sticking with calipers is silly for an "all road" or however you're suppose to classify this. I understand why calipers are important if someone wants to use this as a race bike. And I know there are some who are still hung up about the aesthetics of disc brakes on road bikes. But, if you care about tire clearance, riding with fenders, and the best performance, why would anyone choose calipers over discs? The only way to add discs and maintain a race legal option for All-City would be to offer two different frames. It makes sense why a company wouldn't want to do that, but they already do this with their cross bikes and the Space Horse.

I'm really interested in an equal dollar comparison of carbon vs. aluminium vs. steel particularly with respect to weight.

I once researched a very light but very expensive steel bike, but, the price was off the charts.

Great bike! No gimmicks, just great strength and reliability.

Also, you might want to flip your saddlebag over so that it fits a little nicer under your saddle. It is designed so that the waterproof and easier to clean half sits over your wheel rather than the softer material.

I have the 2016 Arkose 3, pretty great so far! Swap those tyres though - for Kenda's (my tyre manufacturer of last resort) they're not horrendous, but don't expect traction on wet roads when going around corners.

I was looking at Cannondale SuperSix but ended up going with this instead. Partially for the looks, but it also seemed a slightly better fit for me, looking at the geometry. This is the DI2 version (Ultegra). Size is XL.

So far I'm really enjoying riding this bike, except when i forgot to charge it and got stuck on the small ring!!

Some time in the near future I want to upgrade and get the disc variant of the CAAD12 and get a GT Grade Carbon to rip around when the CAAD12 won't do.

With that combo, there pretty much nowhere I couldn't go.

So this bike was initially sold for 400 AUD but was reduced down to 200 AUD (150 USD)

Alu frame, carbon fork, Claris gears, tektro brakes, noname chainset

Wheels are terrible but otherwise a nice bike especially considering it's price.

#14 Rule #5 and Rule #9: Check.

bicycling

COMMENTS

  • Quarante_Deux
    5 points Jan 09,2017, 12:30pm

For anyone who doesn't know the rules by heart :

Rule #5 : Harden The Fuck Up

Rule #9 : If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.

Fair-weather riding is a luxury reserved for Sunday afternoons and wide boulevards. Those who ride in foul weather – be it cold, wet, or inordinately hot – are members of a special club of riders who, on the morning of a big ride, pull back the curtain to check the weather and, upon seeing rain falling from the skies, allow a wry smile to spread across their face. This is a rider who loves the work.

First ride on studded tires and I'm pleasantly surprised at how grippy they actually are. It was almost like riding in the dry. Nokian/Suomi W106's.

Rule #5 was invoked because I was really skittish on riding to work on fresh snow with tires that had never seen pavement yet, in the dark, on rural roads with pickup drivers that like to make too-close passes, and was making all sorts of excuses NOT to go.

I did it anyway. And I'm REALLY glad that I did.

Great weather today wasn't it? I was riding north of you in the middle river/bird river area. So sweet for January.

New to me at least! Bought it used in great shape. First bike for me since I was a teenager so trying to get in shape and better at riding on it. Took it on a quick 3 mile test run today, which was honestly still enough to wind me a bit :( . When riding I felt like the seat was leaned a little to far back... does it look that way to you all?

Congrats, enjoy the bike. I started with a FX1 a couple years ago and have since bought a mountain bike and a road bike.
